About me

What Brings You Here

Welcome to the world of counselling. You have taken the first courageous step: contemplating a journey of self-discovery, healing and growth. You may have a specific issue that is troubling you whether it be work issues, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties or one of life’s crises. Alternatively, you may wish to work towards a more fulfilling and harmonious life; there are as many ways of experiencing ourselves as there are people on the planet.

As with all my clients, you are a unique individual, we would jointly embark on the therapeutic journey, combining a range of therapeutic approaches to gain clarity and understanding. We may also draw inspiration from art, music and popular culture; ultimately those approaches that you feel most comfortable with and that best suit your needs.

You don't have to face life's challenges alone. I'm here to offer a safe, confidential and supportive space for you. Let's navigate your journey together, with understanding and compassion. Let’s arrange an introductory meeting to explore the best ways of working together and help you decide whether you’d like to progress counselling with me.

Areas I have worked with

As a compassionate and committed counselling professional, I provide support across the lifespan, helping individuals navigate their life's challenges, transitions, and personal growth. While I am skilled in addressing a variety of issues, I have special interest in three key areas.

Child Parent Relationship

We might be focusing on the dynamics of child-parent and sibling relationships. These early-life experiences can significantly shape our adulthood, impacting our self-esteem, emotional well-being, and relationship patterns. I aim to help clients unravel these complex layers, offering a safe space to process past trauma and its ongoing effects.

Creative Block / Writers' Block

I have experience in addressing creative blockages. Whether you're a writer, artist, musician, or anyone who relies on their creativity, I understand how stifling these blocks can be. I work collaboratively with you, using therapeutic tools to unlock your creative potential and move beyond barriers that might be hindering your self-expression.

LGBT+

I provide supportive counselling for the LGBT+ community. Recognising the unique struggles that individuals within this community can face – from coming out, to navigating relationships, to dealing with societal prejudices – I offer an open, non-judgemental space to explore these challenges.

With my psychotherpeutic counselling services, I aim to create a warm, safe, and accepting environment where every individual feels seen, heard, and understood. Regardless of what you're going through, I'm here to support and guide you on your journey towards healing and self-discovery.

About my approach to counselling

My counselling approach is grounded in existential and phenomenological approaches, focusing deeply on the lived experiences of each client. This perspective allows me to acknowledge and respect the uniqueness and complexity of individual realities. I believe that counselling is not merely an intellectual process but a holistic one, encompassing both the mind and the body. By staying attuned to physical sensations, emotions, thoughts, and the subtle interplay between these realms, I strive to foster a comprehensive understanding of the individual's experience. This approach aims to support clients in connecting more deeply with themselves, promoting personal growth, healing, and transformation.

The Therapeutic Relationship

The therapeutic relationship is the cornerstone of the work we will do together. I approach this alliance with warmth, empathy, and non-judgment, fostering an environment of mutual respect and trust. This atmosphere of safety and acceptance encourages open dialogue, allowing you to delve into your thoughts, feelings, and experiences freely. As we traverse this journey together, the aim is not only to explore, but to make space for transformation. Our collaborative relationship will serve as a catalyst for growth, enabling you to evolve towards healthier, more creative ways of being and interacting with the world around you. Through this process, we strive to uncover the strength within you to navigate life's challenges and to embrace your authentic self.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Additional information

Sessions are usually scheduled for the same time every week and are paid for in advance of the session. I can offer some flexibility if you have an irregular work pattern. In the early stages of therapy, regular weekly sessions offer structure and focus within a safe and ethical framework of good practice. Over time we can discuss alternative approaches such as fortnightly sessions or sessions as and when required.

Exploring the Client Journey

To begin your journey, simply make a call or send an email to schedule a complimentary 20-minute phone or video consultation. This session will allow us to exchange initial thoughts and assess whether we can establish a productive therapeutic relationship.

After the consultation, the decision to proceed lies entirely with you. Feel free to either arrange your first full counselling session with me or choose to end our contact at this point - the path you take should resonate with your comfort and intuition.

In our first session, we meet as planned, either via phone or online. This is a safe space for you to start discussing your experiences at a pace that suits you best.

Subsequent sessions can be scheduled at the conclusion of each meeting, giving us the flexibility to adjust the frequency of sessions as needed.

As our journey draws to an end, I usually recommend around three final sessions to ensure a smooth and gentle conclusion to our therapeutic process. This provides a safe space for reflection and closure.
