About me

Is something affecting your day-to-day life? Perhaps you are feeling anxious, depressed, or lacking direction and motivation. Perhaps you have been recently bereaved or are having relationship problems or maybe you have reached a point in your life where you feel ready to explore a trauma from your past.

Whatever challenges you are facing in your life, if you feel you can’t cope, or feel isolated or overwhelmed, I can help. I will offer a warm and welcoming safe space where you can take time out for you, to share your experience and be heard. It takes courage to seek support and taking the first steps can be daunting, however by reaching out for help you have already taken a significant and important step towards your improving your mental wellbeing.

I offer a safe and confidential space for you to share what’s troubling you. I will listen empathetically and attentively to gain an understanding of what you are experiencing and offer fresh perspective and reflection. Working together and at your own pace, we will identify goals to help you move forward for a happier and healthier life.

I work therapeutically with adults in a wide range of issues from anxiety, depression, self-harm, suicidal feelings, self-confidence and self-esteem, body dysmorphia, eating disorders … to name just a few things. I work with people of all faiths, cultures, sexual orientations and backgrounds.

I also work as a bereavement counsellor.   Understanding the enormous impact of bereavement and grief, I will help you to make sense of your feelings with compassion and empathy and help you navigate the way forward acknowledging the huge void that is left when a significant person in our lives dies.

My Approach

I am passionate about the benefits that therapy can bring to your overall wellbeing and I believe that the essence of good therapy lies in the therapeutic relationship. As such I will be authentic, unconditionally accepting, relatable and human, to create a safe and empowering space where you can be you, where you can feel safe enough to explore your hopes and fears and where you'll be welcomed, seen, heard and understood.

As every person is unique, I will tailor my way of working with you based on your individual needs and personality using a variety of different approaches.

I can help you to gain insight and understanding about yourself, your perceptions and patterns and ways of relating to self and others. Becoming self-aware can be life affirming. Working collaboratively, I will support you in realising your own capacity to heal and grow and be the person you want to be.

With some clients, I offer a creative approach to counselling which can ease anxiety when talking feels too much or when it feels difficult to put thoughts and feelings into words.

Whichever approach is best for you, counselling can give you a dedicated space in your week where you can focus on just being you.

Testimonial

'I am so grateful for the help and support that I have received from RVT. Clare was amazing, she listened and really helped me work through everything that I was going through. I have experienced lots of loss and I had been carrying my grief like a heavy weight for years, I finally feel like it has been lifted from my shoulders and I feel lighter. Clare was brilliant, she really helped me to take control of my life and relationships, I now realise my own worth and that for me has been very empowering. I feel like I have a strategy to cope for the future and I know what I can do if I have a relapse. Thank you so much Clare!'

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
