About me

Thanks for considering me to be your counsellor. I am here to help with whatever is making life hard right now. You may be experiencing difficulty in your relationships with others, either at work, or in the family. You may have noticed that it’s becoming harder to regulate your emotions, or impossible to make decisions about your own life. Talking to someone neutral can help you get back in touch with what you really feel, leaving you free to make the decisions you need to get back on track. Whatever your situation, I can help you make sense of whatever's going on, and support you in finding a way through.

I have particular experience in helping people experiencing anxiety or emotional abuse, and also of working with young people.

Anxiety

Heightened anxiety can seriously affect our sense of wellbeing. It raises its head in all manner of ways, including panic attacks, which can undermine our confidence and make us fear for our very lives. It can make us overly cautious and unable to live the life we want. I can help you understand and come to terms with your anxiety, allowing you to once again do the things you love.

Emotional Abuse

You may find yourself in a volatile relationship, with a partner, family member or work colleague whose behaviour could be described as narcissistic. Their verbal abuse and gaslighting may have made you feel as if there is something wrong with you, and that you are to blame for all their problems. Abusers can often appear charming in public, saving their rage for those closest to them, so you need the support of someone outside the situation. I can help you see through their games and manipulation, and reconnect with what’s real.

Young People

The modern world is an increasingly demanding place, especially post-pandemic. For young people this can make it even harder to face the natural challenges of growing up. Talking to a counsellor doesn’t mean that there is anything wrong with the young person (or their parents!) – we all face difficulties from time to time, and sometimes talking to someone outside the family can help in meeting life’s challenges. I use a variety of creative approaches to help the young person in understanding their emotions and expressing their developing sense of identity.

What are the first steps?

If that sounds like it could be a good fit for you, then do please get in touch. Email, text or phone are all fine - whatever works for you.

I will get back to you to within 24 hours. We can then book in your first full session, or if you prefer, I offer a free 15 minute phone/online introductory call so you can decide if I'm the right counsellor for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I qualified as an integrative therapist, which just means that I can use different techniques such as person-centred, Gestalt, and cognitive behavioural therapies,  adapting to whatever we feel would work best for you.

Having undertaken further advanced training in counselling children and young people, I am able to work with anyone from the age of 8 upwards.

Before training as a counsellor I worked as a teacher, and have 25 years experience of supporting young people in secondary schools.

I hold an enhanced DBS certificate for working with children and young people.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
