About me

"The sessions with Chantell have been a weekly anchor- so brilliant and a lifeline during a really difficult time for me and my family. I have never had such deep insights and realisations into my past experiences and how they impact my life now as I have had in this work. Neither have I ever felt as equipped with tools and practices that can support me in difficult moments as I do now. Not only for me, but for my child too. These sessions have been a gift and I am truly grateful."

Hi and welcome, my name is Dr Chantell Douglas. I am a highly specialist and experienced clinical psychologist. I have worked in the NHS for over 15 years. I specialise in working with parents, children, families, adults and couples with a range of difficulties, across the lifespan and from a range of diverse backgrounds, identities and cultures.

I offer adult, couple, parent and child support:

I work with adults (individuals or couples) seeking support for their own mental health and/or relationship concerns, including experiences of anxiety, low mood, trauma, stress and burnout, issues related to identity, e.g., race, gender, sexuality, neurodivergence, loss and grief, living with physical health concerns, ways of relating to a partner, communication and behaviour concerns and much more.

I work with parents seeking support around the understandable highs and lows of parenting, including emotional challenges during / after birth, managing difficult decisions, adjustment to parenthood, experiences of loss and grief, exploring past trauma and current triggers, strong emotions in parenting, navigating challenges in the couple dynamic, stress and burnout and much more.

I work with parents when they have concerns about their child- such as anxiety feelings, low mood, behaviour that can challenge, neurodevelopmental, school and friendship issues, and much more.

I believe that our feelings (all of them) are fundamental to being human. Living a full and whole hearted life is not the absence of feelings, it’s finding ways to navigate them that allow us greater flexibility, freedom and choice. Transformation and change can come in the context of a deeper understanding of ourselves, our context, connection and compassion. I offer a warm, welcoming and nurturing environment to explore difficulties in a safe way, to connect you to strengths, skills, resources, tools and practices that you can draw on outside of the therapy space, and to reclaim what’s important to you and move closer towards your preferred future.

I am trained in and draw on a number of evidence and research-based psychological therapy models and approaches. Psychological therapy focuses on exploring our personal stories, emotional experiences, and the wider contextual factors that impact our lives. It can reconnect us to strengths, skills and our values, and help us to build more coping resources to manage difficult experiences and reduce distress over time.

I am also trained as a yoga teacher, yoga therapist, and have specialist trainings in integrating the body into therapy. If it feels right for you, we may explore this together. Yoga therapy is the science and psychology of integrating the mind, body, spirit and our whole selves into the work. We know that trauma and psychological distress can be experienced and held in the body. Yoga therapy integrates yoga principles, breathing techniques, mindfulness and compassion practices, somatic practices to help settle, calm and soothe our body and nervous system. It can transform our experiences of ourselves and offer more resources that we can access at times of stress, overwhelm and challenge. No experience of yoga is required, it’s through gentle enquiry and small practices that you can transform experiences and take with you into your life.

In the therapy, I work collaboratively with you to identify your goals and what matters to you, and the types of approaches you would find helpful. We may work in a more explorative or structured way depending on the concerns. We can work in short/medium/long-term way, depending on what you need and is available to you at this time. My work is anchored in social justice principles, and welcomes all people from a diverse range of backgrounds.
