About me

Hello

I'd just like to say 'welcome' to whoever may reach out to me to see whether I am the right counsellor for them. It is important to me that you feel comfortable to be able to reach out to me if you would like to get more information around how I work and what experience I have. I also want to learn about you and get an idea about what it is that has bought you to counselling so we can see if we would be a good match as counsellor and client.

I feel that it is important to make sure that the counsellor you access is the right one for you, not just in relation to the experience of the counsellor but also because the rapport between client and counsellor is so important for the therapeutic process.

I am trained as an integrative counsellor which allows me to draw on different approaches when working with clients with different issues. The approaches I am trained in are psychodynamic and person centred, as well as person centred counselling for depression (which involves drawing on the emotions my clients are experiencing and how the way that they experience them may have an impact on their mental health and relationships). I have worked as a counsellor for 8 years with clients of different ages and differing issues.

I am an accredited member of the BACP and I have also worked as a counsellor with the NHS through IAPT, as well as in a secondary school supporting teenagers and young adults. I have also worked with primary school aged children using play and art therapy.

The types of issues I have worked with clients are:

  • Depression and anxiety.
  • Panic attacks
  • Relationship issues
  • Childhood trauma.
  • Financial worries
  • Low self esteem
  • Career anxiety
  • Physical health issues
  • Eating disorders

I have also worked with many neuro-diverse clients who experience the world with ADHD and/or ASD. Through working with clients who experience this I feel I have learned a lot about what its like for others to experience the world in this way, which has been very helpful for me when working with clients experiencing this.

What to expect in your first session:- If you reach out to me we can arrange a first session where I will discuss the areas I have experience in and explore what it is that has bought you to counselling. Then we can consider whether I would be the right counsellor for you. This can also be discussed informally on the telephone or via video, if preferred (without charge).

I am currently working with clients online, using MS Teams or telephone.

Some client feedback:

“Catherine Rawlings is an exceptional and very intuitive counsellor. Catherine has allowed me the space to speak freely and listened, but helped me challenge or accept behaviours and my core beliefs so that I can see the problems I face and recognise that I have a choice. I cannot thank Catherine enough”.

“Catherine Rawlings was so lovely and I feel she has helped me.  She understands my issues, listens, gives good advice and is sensitive to my feelings.  Also remembers everything I have told her. Lovely lady and would recommend her to anyone.  Feel very sad that my sessions with her have come to an end".

“I had a very caring and understanding help from my therapist , she is an amazing listener .”

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
