About me

I am a qualified integrative therapist and a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP), who uses a number of counselling modalities to best meet the client’s needs. I specialize in all substance and behavioural addictions, working not only with addicts, but also family members struggling with the addict. I have a great understanding of 12 step recovery programs. Other areas I work with are; sex, intimacy, relationships, self-esteem, depression, anxiety, trauma, abuse, ADHD, autism, anger, and bereavement. I work with LBGTQIA and BDS/SM  communities also.

I am a volunteer counsellor at two charities where I work with individuals & co-facilitate groups. I also work for a third charity as Victim Care Coordinator, as well as having a private counselling practice. During this time I have gained experience working with a diverse range of clients on several issues including; addiction, rape, sexual abuse, anxiety, bereavement, trauma, co-dependency, hoarding, depression, relationships, sex and intimacy, to name a few.

Outside of counselling I have supported people for 23 years with a wide range of challenges, in different situations, at different stages of their lives, including addictions, mental health problems, suicide, hoarding and major life changes, which ultimately lead me down the path to becoming a therapist.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

As well as working with all addictions, I also work with the suffering family members of addicts and alcoholics.

Intimacy is a subject I work with, working with individuals' avoidance, blockages and fears, whether their own or their partners.

Sex issues (can be closely link with intimacy for some) is another subject I work with. Is it the right kind of sex. Not enough. Too much. Fearful of sex. Shame. Using sex as power in a relationship, withholding it, being on the receiving end of sexual manipulation. Sexual identify. Navigating sexual relationships. Learning about ones self in relation to sex. Working through previous trauma and abuse, and how that affect sex now.
