About me

Bárbara Godoy M.A., Adv.Dip.Exi.Psy, UKCP, MBACP and SEA – Director of Therapy Harley Street and the Mind Body Center

Existential Psychotherapist accredited by the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy, professional member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy  and former committee member (and current professional member) of the Society for Existential Analysis.

Bárbara follows the Code of Ethics and practice as set by the UKCP and is in regular clinical supervision on an individual basis with Prof.
Ernesto Spinelli. Previous supervisor was Lucy Moja-Strasser.

Barbara’s Approach to the Practice of Therapy with Individuals, Couples and Groups is Existential-Phenomenological

Phenomenological refers to a methodology of investigation that temporarily suspends judgement and preference with the intention to “see” what is there in front of our eyes (and the rest of our senses too!).

Existential direct us towards philosophy, which is the love for wisdom (or, as some have argued: the wisdom about love). Existential Therapy is not for the faint-hearted as it requires patience and courage.

This approach encourages us to respond to life’s challenges in our own creative way, rather than by applying already-made formulas and scripts handed down by others, to embrace the wider range of experiences without losing balance

Training, qualifications & experience

Bárbara’s academic experience in the theory and practice of advanced existential analysis includes lecturing at Doctorate courses in London where she also provided clinical supervision and conducted personal and professional development groups, as visiting lecturer of the School of Psychotherapy and Counselling Psychology, Regent’s University  and the New School of Psychotherapy and Counselling founded by Emmy van Deurzen.

In addition to her private practice at Therapy Harley Street and the Mind Body Center in Maida Vale Bárbara also provides clinical supervision to professional and trainee psychotherapist. For several years she worked as a professional consultant and clinical supervisor of the team of therapists at Lawrs (Latin American Women’s Rights Services in London).

Bárbara’s education includes: Masters of Arts in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling from Regent’s University; Advanced Diploma in Existential Psychotherapy from Regents University (5th year postgraduate – doctoral level); Advanced Diploma in Psychoanalysis (Buenos Aires); Group Therapy and Therapeutic Community from Humaniversity, The Netherlands; Meditation Leader Training from Multiversity, Pune, India; Dance-Theatre from the Faculty of Philosophy and Literature, UBA (University of Buenos Aires).

Bárbara has a long lasting relationship with the Metropolitan Center for Psychoanalysis in Buenos Aires with whom she has collaborated in a number of research projects. In past years, while acting as the SEA’s discussion group organizer and facilitator, Bárbara contributed in conferences, presenting workshops and writing articles and papers for the field.
