About me

A warm welcome to Anne Barber counselling and Psychotherapy. I have been a teacher/examiner for over twenty years in West Sussex, and have always been fascinated and curious about human behaviour.

I currently work as a Specialist Counsellor/Psychotherapist for the NHS in Oncology, based at the Royal Sussex County  Hospital Brighton and the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath.

Alongside my teaching I decided to train as a TA Psychotherapist, I believe the power is in the relationship in the therapy room and we all have the capacity to change. We may all experience difficult periods in our lives, and together we can explore whatever is troubling you, and make sense of your distress.

I provide a safe, confidential, non-judgemental environment, where you can talk and explore your feelings.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified Psycho-therapeutic Counsellor,

  • Post-Graduate Diploma in Transactional Analysis psychotherapy (Dip TA Practice)
  • Advanced Clinical training in Transactional Analysis.
  • Certificate in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy.
  • Certificate in Counselling Skills.
  • UKATA Diploma in TA Psychotherapy.

I am a registered member of UKATA ,EATA  and the BACP.

I work within strict guidelines,I have clinical supervision on my work, and have full professional indemnity insurance.

Alongside my teaching I work for Macmillan in partnership with the NHS at RSCH in Brighton. I was also the resident Counsellor at Beacon Academy Sixth Form College in Crowborough. I continue my journey to registration with UKCP, uphold the ethical standards of the professional bodies I belong to and continue to update my CPD.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

UKATA
UK Association for Transactional Analysis (UKATA)

UKATA (formally the Institute of Transactional Analysis) is the national UK Transactional Analysis organisation representing all fields of TA theory and practice. TA can be used as an effective tool in a wide range of contexts such as: personal development, management, coaching, counselling, psychotherapy, teaching, education, parenting and more.
