About me
My name is Alex and I am a fully qualified, BACP-registered, counsellor with a proven track record of helping people work through all kinds of problems. I offer in-person sessions in Reading (town centre), or online via zoom. You can scroll to the bottom of my profile if you wish to read what previous clients had to say about my services.
I think that part of the problem we all share is that we grew up in a society that didn't really understand human emotions. Thus, we quickly learned that emotions are a problem and that the only proper way of dealing with them is to shut them off, brush them under the carpet and put on a brave face.
Over time, the load of repressed, unacknowledged, emotions increases, not unlike a pressure cooker. At some point, if we don't learn to have a healthy relationship with our emotions, the pressure becomes too much for the lid to hold... and boom!... anxiety, depression, uncontrollable anger, shouting, panic, blaming, violence, addiction, suicidal thoughts, eating disorders, etc... all of which are signs that the emotional pressure is reaching maximum capacity.
What's the alternative? To gather up the courage and face the emotional pain that we're carrying before it explodes... The trick here is in learning to share the thoughts and feelings that may have previously felt too difficult to acknowledge.

Training, qualifications & experience
I have been working as a counsellor, in a variety of settings, for the past five years, supporting people with a range of different presenting issues, such as depression, anxiety, bereavement, addiction, low self-esteem, terminal illness, etc.
Previous experience
- Sue Ryder Duchess of Kent Hospice (Reading), where I worked with end-of-life patients and family members.
- Change Grow Live, where I worked with people struggling with substance misuse.
- Mind, where I worked with people struggling with common mental health issues

- MSc in Counselling (University of Northampton)

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
