Sometimes our lives can throw us unexpected challenges which can leave us feeling depressed, stressed, sad and overwhelmed. We may feel emotionally and mentally exhausted. Sometimes these issues can have an effect on our professional and work life, our personal relationships and also cause emotional and sexual distances with our loved ones. Sound familiar?
Over the years we have learned to hide our true feelings which in turn can leave us with feelings of conflict with the things we say and the real way that we feel. We have begun to be untrue to ourselves. Eventually this will lead to a feeling of resentment towards ourselves and those around us.
There does'nt have to be a reason - nothing needs to have happened - but sometimes things don't quite feel right and you can't put your finger on it.
We can talk it through. Once we have found what the 'issue' actually is, you will begin to feel better and begin to live again in a more proactive and fulfilling way.
My area of work includes relationship issues, sexuality, self worth, self image, abuse, addiction, bereavement, loss ,prisons, young offenders, Self Harm.
I have worked with Relate, private clients and large organisations including a BBC radio station as the 'Advice Angel' and BBC TV programmes.
My background includes lecturer of Counselling studies as well as working freelance for local authority's and for private health care companies as a counsellor and psychotherapist.
I also work from my private practice as well as working with the NHS, PCT and write features for magazines.
I offer a private, professional and confidential* Counselling, CBT, EMDR and Psychosexual therapy in a safe, and friendly environment.
In a safe, non judgemental and supportive environment, we will work together to explore your inner, hidden feelings and emotions, many of which may have been dormant for years.

Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information
I thought you may like to now a little bit about myself and what brought me into this work.
I have made many life changing decisions in my life. Some good, some not so good. I have experienced the feeling of depression, darkness and despair with no light at the end of the tunnel. But one thing I have learned - with love, understanding and support and true determination to win, there is light at the end!
I have made mistakes but thats because I'm human - the important thing is, I have decided its ok and Im ok with myself.
We all have to be allowed to make our own mistakes - that's what eventually shapes our future and helps to make us who we are. I believe that we have no right to take away the future of another human being by dictating and refusing to listen to the needs of others.
Let me help you to live up to your full potential.
Call me for an appointment and we can take it from there.
Please leave a message on my answer phone, mobile or email and I will contact you as soon as I can.
Please be assured that any conversation between ourselves will remain confidential*.
Take care of yourself because unless you are feeling 'OK' you can't possibly give the right amount of attention to those you love.
Bernadette.
* Confidentiality will be discussed and explained during your first session.
