About me

IMAGINE.... a life where you feel more pleasure; a reduction in your stress levels; relationships that you enjoy; the relief of having someone listen attentively to you; a place to discover more of you.

I believe these things are possible and will help you to achieve them.

If you can imagine it, you can achieve it is my mantra.

I have helped people who have suffered from depression, anxiety, anger management, menopause, relationship problems, addictions, bereavement, adoption, PTSD.

I also offer couples counselling, career counselling and support for redundancy. I have worked with many front line staff from NHS and other services. my clients say they have gained insight and made changes, and so had relief from their problems and taken the opportunity to find fresh options for more fulfilling lives.

If you come to work with me I will tailor my approach to your individual needs. I can help you so that you gain a sense of empowerment and increased control over the issues that diminish the quality of your life. I weave in various techniques including hypnosis. Hypnosis has been found to get results faster.

I have a particular interest in supporting people to unravel the complexities of being in relationships whether with partners, children, work colleagues or managers. I recently wrote and delivered training on Parenting the Adolescent and believe this to be much needed support for both.

My clients include individuals, couples, students, therapists, parents, in fact, people from all walks of life.

I continue to offer on-line sessions by Zoom rather than in person sessions. One major benefit for you is that you can access the therapy you need from the comfort of your own home and no hassle of making time to travel for your therapy. This can also reduce any nervousness about meeting a counsellor for the first time in a place you are not familiar with. Results working by Zoom are as good as working in person.

I worked for many years as a general manager and as training manager in a large organisation. The aspect of my job I loved most was sitting with people in my team and providing a listening ear to support them. I realised my dream was to train as a counsellor so that I could provide quality support competently and professionally. My experience within the organisation enables me to help people who experience difficulties within their working environment. Over the years I have continued to train to add multiple tools to my toolkit, and love to share these with my clients.

I have also sat in the "clients chair" so I understand what it means to meet a counsellor for the first time and begin to build a relationship where it is important to share the aspects of my life that I had struggled with. I deeply appreciate the support I received that enabled me to make changes, develop a resilience and find a deeper joy. I believe that my experience of being a client has helped me to help my clients in a deep and profound way.

I have been working in private practice and as a volunteer counsellor for over 23 years. My work has been a source of great satisfaction as I have witnessed people make changes and improvements. Perhaps you would like to do that too? If so, I look forward to meeting you, and being a part of your change process.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

I am mother to an adopted daughter and have experience of the often complex and emotionally demanding journey towards and through parenthood. The adoption process is, quite appropriately, a rigorous one but one which also stimulates all manner of fears and hopes and even disappointments. Finally being matched and meeting a child is not the end of the emotional journey and is often the time when further support is needed to discuss the complex and confusing feelings that arise.

I am deeply interested in the impact that the changes of parenthood can have on us. If this is an area you are struggling with, please come and talk freely with me about it, secure in the knowledge that I will not judge you.

Another area I am interested in is stress reduction. There are key events in life guaranteed to increase our stress: getting married; getting divorced; buying a house; leaving a job (voluntarily or otherwise), ill-health. Some stress is useful, it can be a motivator. Too much and we tip into a place that is very unhealthy. If you feel your stress levels are unhealthy, please come and talk about it and together we can restore your balance.

Hypnotherapy is an immensely useful tool for bringing calm and relaxation as well as getting to the root of problems. I used it to great benefit to support myself through recent cancer treatment and I often teach self hypnosis to my therapy clients if they want to add it to their skills. It is also clinically proven to reduce menopause symptoms, especially hot flushes and night sweats.
