About me
I am an HCPC registered Counselling Psychologist offering psychological therapy to adults on a short- to long-term basis.
Mental health difficulties are normal and can be experienced by anyone. Psychological therapy can be considered a guiding process where individuals learn to navigate their distress by learning coping methods and better understanding their triggers. However, as we are all unique individuals our therapeutic journey may vary from one and another.
Counselling Psychologist:
The title of "Counselling Psychologist" is legally protected and reserved for those who have completed a doctoral degree. The Counselling Psychology doctorate has allowed me to train as a practitioner and researcher. It has allowed me to learn about various therapeutic approaches and has equipped me to contribute to the growing knowledge base within psychology using my research skills.
My approach:
Counselling psychology is based on humanistic values where humans are viewed as unique individuals who have subjective life experiences. Hence, I believe as a psychologist it is important for me to adapt my way of working according to each individual client's needs.
The therapeutic journey may look different for everyone. Some people may want to learn ways of coping with certain symptoms while others may want a space to explore their past experiences and/or relationships. I am able to tailor my way of working according to your needs.
I have an international background and have been trained to be a culturally competent practitioner. A interest area of mine is understanding and processing covert racism. Hence, my doctoral dissertation looked at Understanding the British Asian experiences of Racial Microaggressions in a UK context.
I am well versed in working using cognitive behavioural therapy, person-centred therapy, psychodynamic therapy and integrative therapy.
The process:
Starting therapy can be a daunting process, hence, I offer an initial phone call free of charge to discuss any concerns you may have and to answer any questions.
If you feel comfortable after the phone call and are happy to proceed we will book a consultation session. The consultation session will allow us to further explore your current difficulties and discuss what you would like to get out of therapy.
During the consultation, we will discuss your individual circumstances and will set up a therapeutic contract. The therapeutic contract will cover the length, duration and frequency of sessions.
If after the consultation you are happy to proceed and we have agreed to a length of time for the therapeutic process we will start with sessions.
Therapy sessions typically tend to last 50 minutes and are once a week at the same time. However, depending on your individual circumstances we can contract what works best for you in terms of duration/frequency of sessions.
Sessions can be conducted remotely or face-to-face.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.
