About me
Welcome.
I'm a qualified Humanistic Existential therapist, and I offer counselling in a compassionate, confidential and non-judgemental space. My approach is philosophical and person-centred, and together we will explore, and work through the issues that may be troubling you.
I strive to see through your eyes, to gain a deeper understanding of your unique world view. Because existential therapy is rooted in philosophy, rather than psychology, we will naturally look at the tensions that can arise within the givens of our existence; anxiety, choice, freedom, responsibility, isolation, meaning and meaninglessness, life and death; all the aspects of human existence.
Counselling will give you a greater sense of clarity, so you can more easily identify old patterns of behaviour and thinking that no longer serve you.
Although my approach is largely existential, I also integrate and work with elements of mindfulness, meditation, and Buddhist philosophy.
I am also a Mindfulness Meditation teacher, and pleased to be able to offer this service to clients, organisations, friends and the larger community.
You are very welcome at my practice. Come say hello!
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a qualified counsellor with a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, and training specifically in Humanistic Existential therapy. I also work as a Mindfulness Meditation teacher.
I have many years of experience working in mental health and wellbeing charities, and with a wide range of clients and presenting issues. Alongside my private practice, I work at the award-winning mental health and wellbeing charity Platfform Wellbeing. I am also a registered member of the BACP, which is the professional body of counsellors and psychotherapists in the UK. I mindfully adhere to their ethical framework and attend regular courses and workshops to ensure that I work ethically and safely by keeping informed and staying on top of my professional development. I am fully insured and also receive monthly supervision.
Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information
Initial assessment over the phone.
This is where we talk about what you would like to bring to counselling and explore how we can best work together based on your needs. We will explore if we're a good match, and talk through boundaries and expectations. It's also good to just have an informal chat. Drop me an email to check my availability and to say hi.
No pressure.
You're under no pressure or expectation to engage in, or continue counselling with me, if you don't feel like it after the assessment call. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable with the counsellor you choose, and I encourage you to spend some time to find the right one, whether it's me or someone else.
