About me
Choosing a therapist can be daunting, especially if you are feeling anxious, overwhelmed or at a low ebb. That is why creating an environment for us to work together where you feel comfortable and safe is a priority for me. I'm passionate about working with people, helping them navigate their personal journey through the complexities of life.
Every client is unique with different life experiences and needs. As an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, I tailor my approach to what you bring, drawing on my experience to aid our work together. I offer short term (6 to 12 sessions), long term and open-ended counselling, depending on your needs. I work with adults from age 18 upwards.
We can explore your challenges in the present and also, where useful, we can look at earlier life events and experiences to understand the root or patterns of behaviour. By trying to understand the impact of our past on our emotions and behaviour, it can help us have more awareness of ourselves and our approach to relationships now.
We’ll work together at a pace that’s right for you. You are the expert in your own life. We can explore together the areas that might be causing you distress or perhaps stopping you living the life you want to live.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a fully qualified Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist, with a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and Level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling.
Being passionate about learning, I am currently studying a Mindfulness-Based Behavioural Therapy Course as I am interested in understanding how mindfulness techniques can help us escape from the negative responses to feelings and thoughts that disturb us.
I have previously worked as a Counsellor with Headstrong Counselling and Ruils (a user-led charity supporting people with long-term health and mental health conditions to live independently). Prior to that I also volunteered at The Listening Place, a charity offering free face-to-face listening for people who think life is no longer worth living.
I am also a Chartered Occupational Psychologist. I have worked in this field for over 20 years in both consultancy and in-house roles in the private and public sectors, providing specialist input into the design of selection and development initiatives. Alongside this work I also trained as a Coach, supporting individuals in achieving their potential in the workplace.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
