About me

I consider we are an array of emotions and moods and at times can feel anxious or low, perhaps due to something that is currently happening in our life or perhaps we are not sure why we feel that way, only that something feels not quite right. By sharing that experience with someone not within our family/friendship circle, helps to bring understanding and a sense of balance back into our life.

The way I work is to focus upon you and what you would like to bring to the session. My approach is integrative, drawing upon different ways and perspectives of understanding, such as why we think, feel and behave the way we do. Part of the work will sometimes look at how the past may be playing out in the present, which brings a greater understanding of what might be causing any distress and/or relationship difficulties. Once we begin to understand ‘why’, we can work towards making changes to a more, healthier way of living.

My experience has been with many different presenting difficulties and client backgrounds - young people and adults - seeing each client as an individual with their own story and experience. I have worked within University settings managing and teaching counsellor training courses, as well as clinically leading within counselling agencies.

Our first session gives opportunity to see if the way I work meets with what you are looking for and if we 'connect' - research informs us that the better connection within the therapeutic relationship, the more beneficial the counselling becomes. This is also where we will explore and discuss what has brought you to counselling and what you hope to achieve from the process. Some background information and assessment elements will also take place on our first session.

All sessions carry a fee of £60, including the first session, however, if preferred, before booking a session, I do offer a brief 10 minute telephone consultation free of charge

The space is warm, confidential and focuses upon meeting your individual needs

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Areas of counselling I deal with

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I have significant experience of working with clients that are affected by working with trauma and so become 'secondary traumatised'. This is particularly applicable to those working within a caring role e.g. medics, nursing, police officers and carers
