About me

Hello and a heartfelt welcome, my name is Tara. I'm an experienced therapist with a history of effectively working with various issues including depression, anxiety, relationship problems (partners and families), ADHD, low self-esteem, anger, bereavement, trauma, and more.

Sometimes, things can feel too overwhelming to cope with by ourselves, and getting the support of a warm and empathetic professional can allow us to move forward in ways that aren't always as easily achievable alone. Whether you need space to talk, tools to cope, or an outside perspective that can help you see change (or all three), I would be very happy to help get you from where you are, to where you want to be.

How I Work

I have undertaken modern degree-level, therapeutic training and specialise in integrative CBT, person-centered, systemic and psychodynamic therapies to effectively help you to move forward in ways that suit you.

In practice, this means that I strive to provide a trusting, safe relationship, as well as warmth, care, validation, empowerment, and a non-judgmental space in which you can be yourself. I also provide practical coping strategies and tools where wanted to help you to achieve your goals. In short, I aim to help you to become the best, healthiest version of you, in a way that is both comfortable and works for you. Please do not hesitate to get in touch to book a free phone, video, or text consultation, or ask any questions.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

What Happens When You Get In Touch?

Firstly, we arrange a free consultation so that we may get to know one another. You can ask any questions you'd like and get a feel for whether we "click" before we agree to start therapy together. If we both feel like we'd be a good fit, we move on to arranging your first session. You can always take time to think about it first and there is no pressure to start counselling if it doesn't feel right. If you don't think we'd be a good fit, then you can carry on looking for another therapist - no harm done. Or, if I think I'm not the right person to work with the material you'd like to bring to therapy (such as because it's beyond my competency or a subject that's too close to home), I will do my best to help you find someone who is a better fit.

What Happens During Our First Session?

The first session is generally spent setting the foundation for working together - you tell me in detail about what's going on for you and we continue getting to know one another. We may end up setting some goals for working together too, but if we run out of time this may happen in our second session instead. Ultimately, you're in control of what we do during our sessions, and I aim to regularly check in throughout our work to make sure you still feel like we're on track.
