About me

Hello and Welcome to my profile……

Do you ever get the feeling that something just isn't quite right, but you can't put your finger on it? Do you find yourself more and more often retreating to be by yourself?   Maybe you find yourself overwhelmed by distorted and often unhelpful ways of thinking. Are you behaving in ways that seem out of character or self-sabotaging which can sometimes lead to:

  • Depression
  • Prolonged periods of unexplained sadness & low mood
  • Anxiety
  • Relationship Difficulties
  • Anger Issues
  • Impacting work, social, family, school life
  • Lack of self-esteem and self-belief
  • Breakdowns
  • Isolation

Perhaps you have experienced or are currently going through something life changing and you are unsure how to cope with it or come to terms with it.

Whatever it is that brings you to my page; I want you to know that you do not have to do all of this on your own. As a fully trained and registered Counsellor; I aim to offer you a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space where together, we can work though those difficult aspects of your life.  I will be by your side whilst you identify helpful shifts in familiar patterns of thought, language and behaviour and support your process of making positive changes in your life and moving forward.

I work with individuals living with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and I have had success in supporting those individuals build resilience, reduce anxiety and find creative ways to help them understand themselves and their trigger points.

I co-facilitate Group Programmes which has seen high success rates in reducing symptoms of anxiety in its severest form.

EATING DISORDERS

I have completed the Masters Practitioner Programme in Eating Disorders & Obesity. The training is through the National Centre for Eating Disorders, which is a world renowned centre with training accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS). For more information about this kind of support, please visit my website.

Lecturing

I am the Lead Counselling Lecturer at North Kent college where I am teaching the Level 4 Counselling Diploma.

ABOUT ME

I believe in you being the expert of your world, so we will work with what you bring. The focus and the aim of our work will be decided by you and my hope is that I can provide you with a space that empowers you to talk about things that are causing you unease and distress. I will support you in helping you to understand yourself; find answers for your problems and thereby make positive changes.

I work in an integrative way, and this means I will draw on different approaches and ways of working in order to best suit and honour your unique and individual needs.

I hold enhanced DBS clearance which allows me to work with different client groups, including adults, young people and children.

After several years of working in the emergency services, care professions and more recently in a Mental Health setting in the NHS; I now dedicate my time solely to my own private practise.  I also work with several Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP)

I am also the Lead Counselling lecturer at North Kent College teaching the Level 4 Therapeutic Counselling Diploma.

I have worked in various mental health settings including Alternative Provisions, where I worked with individuals with significant emotional dysregulation and attachment difficulties.

As a mental health outreach worker for Mind; I supported individuals who were transitioning from Tertiary Mental Health services back into community support services.  I collaborated with the local Clinical Commissioning Group to identify community services that could provide a key role in supporting people with emotional wellbeing and mental health difficulties.

Prior to my counselling training I worked in the police service for over 10 years.  It was here that I first became fascinated in coping mechanisms especially when put under extremely stressful and sometimes traumatic circumstances.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

NCPS
National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS)

The National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society

This Not For Profit association of counsellors and psychotherapists aim to support the counselling profession, members and training organisations.

In 2013 the NCS register was accredited by the Professional Standards Authority under the Accredited Voluntary Register Scheme. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
