About me

Hi I am Silke and a Consultant Clinical Psychologist. I have over 20 years experience of providing psychological Assessment and Treatment for people with neurodiversity and /or a Learning Disability within the NHS and now also have a private clinic. I can work with clients and /or their support network.

I provide diagnostic assessment of Learning Disability, ADHD, Autism and mental health as well as  therapy and coaching. I utilize a trauma, attachment informed and low arousal approach. I embrace neurodiversity and take into account any sensory issues. I  make adaptations according to your individual needs to make Treatment as effective as possible.

A person with neurodiversity and / or a Learning disability has their own set of strengths, challenges and struggles. They are more likely to have experienced bullying, trauma and abuse. This can make life feel more difficult and cause mental health problems like anxiety conditions, low mood and motivation, self-doubt and frustration. Are you going through a crisis, a major life change, need support, diagnosis or post-diagnostic coaching? I am passionate about adapting therapy to  the specific needs and base our work on your qualities.

I believe being neurodivergent and / or having a Learning Disability should not limit the person you are. It should not stop you dreaming. Understanding the challenges more clearly and the reasons for them will help us find alternative ways of coping and support you reach your goals and have a fulfilling life.

Alternatively, you may be a carer of somebody with Autism and / or a Learning Disability. Are you worried not being able to continue to cope?  Do you struggle to understand what is going on for them and how to help them? It can be very challenging and exhausting to support/care for somebody over a long period of time and understand their needs. It is important to sustain your own wellbeing. I have worked with many carers supporting mild moderate and severe learning disabled individuals, provide consultancy to understand functions of behaviours, meet needs in alternative ways and reduce challenging behaviour utilizing a positive behaviour support model.

I use different evidence based treatments adapted to autism, ADHD and / or learning disability depending on the specific needs.

Further information

I have worked with people with autism and with Learning disabilities for over 20 years within the NHS. I aim to increase quality of life with each interventions. I believe whilst I am an expert in Psychology every person is an expert in their own right and with the right support can formulate and develop their potential, happiness and life goals.

Often it is hardest to make the first step to seek help when you need it most. I would be privileged to work with you. I can offer a free 30 minutes initial consultation session to see if I can help and if you feel I may be a 'good fit' for you.

I will adapt session length to your needs and I can use some email/telephone contact in-between sessions where needed. I use bespoke visual materials, diagrams and structure as required.

I write a draft therapeutic report as part of assessment on our shared understanding of the problems. This  will help us understand triggers, how the problems are maintained and which interventions to use to change them. I will regularly review our progress with you.

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

I make all my sessions and work accessible to neurodivergent clients and other disabilities. I do this by finding out about your qualities and needs as we start working together including session length, use of materials and pace.
