About me

Sometimes things can feel too much. The stresses of work, relationships or socialising can feel too overwhelming. Or you may have had to deal with a loss, of your job, a partner, your identity or relationship or having children. Anxiety or depression may be limiting or crippling you. We can all just ‘get on with things and carry on’ but does it always have to be so difficult. It can be hard to know who to turn to or you may feel unable to reach out to friends or family.

Taking the first steps into counselling can be daunting, I know how hard that can be. I strive to provide a safe and nurturing environment to help you explore your innermost thoughts and feelings. With empathy, acceptance, and compassion I will help you to gradually grow in confidence to bring the difficult issues and concerns that are troubling you. I offer my expertise, so you feel safe to explore painful emotions, tap into your inner resources, to realise your own potential and lead a more fulfilling life.

It can be daunting to start therapy, and finding the right therapist is key. You have to feel you can open up and talk freely.

I work integratively which means I tailor the way I work to your needs. You are in the driving seat; I just make some suggestions on the route we take. We will work together to explore what’s bothering you, how this impacts your life now and how your past has shaped you and your relationships.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified counsellor with a L4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (CPCAB). I am a member of the BACP and adhere to the BACP’s Ethical Framework.

I have worked in the NHS with clients with anxiety, depression, stress, suicide, self-harm, sexual abuse and eating disorders. I am also passionate about working with women and have worked in a domestic abuse centre supporting women through domestic abusive, controlling, and coercive relationships. Being a trauma informed therapist, I can sit with the uncomfortable, giving you the space to bring up difficult experiences and work through how they affect your body, your self-esteem and your inner and outer freedom.

I am also trained in intercultural therapy so have a good understanding of how important it is to appreciate different cultures and how they may influence and impact an individuals’ relationships within their family, their community and connection to self and identity.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
