About me

Taking the first step to see a counsellor can seem like a big move, particularly if you've never done it before. Maybe you feel more anxious than usual or there is a particular problem that's troubling you? Perhaps you're tired of constantly feeling worried or you would like support with emotional challenges. As your counsellor, I will support you to explore your feelings and experiences without judgement but with kindness and understanding.

Counselling sessions can be helpful with lots of issues including:

  • Comparing yourself to others; not feeling good enough or difficulties with self-image or perfectionism.
  • Struggles to implement change in your life.
  • Relationship difficulties - at home, at work or when socialising.
  • Bereavement and loss.
  • A feeling of anxiety and worry that refuses to go away.

When we have the opportunity to share how we feel in a safe, confidential environment, it can help us gain a better understanding of ourselves and our relationships, as well as helping us develop our true potential to lead a more fulfilling life.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified integrative counsellor, meaning I tailor my approach to best suit your needs. I use a relational approach, underpinned by the belief that the strength of our therapeutic relationship is one of the most important aspects of reaching a successful outcome in counselling. My qualifications and training include:

  • Advanced Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy (Iron Mill College)
  • Senior Mental Health Lead (The National College)
  • Cruse bereavement volunteer
  • Post-graduate Certificate in CBT (Iron Mill College)
  • Advanced Coaching Programme (The Thinking Academy)
  • BA hons (University of Leeds)
  • PGCE (University of Leeds)

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (MBACP 405183)

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

What to do next:
To make an enquiry, click on the 'email me' button and I will aim to reply within 24-hours. We can then arrange a free, no obligation 15-minute phone or online call. This will give us chance to get to know each other a little before you decide if you would like to go ahead with booking a full session. It is important that you choose a counsellor you feel comfortable with.

What happens in a full session?
Our first session will involve finding out more about what is worrying you and what you would like to work on. I can explain a bit more about how I work and come up with some thoughts about how we could work together moving forward.

Our sessions are your space to explore your thoughts and feelings in safety, and, if appropriate, for us to perhaps look at some goals for therapy. Perhaps you're not sure about goals; that's fine too, we can start wherever feels most appropriate to you. If you don't know where to start, that's OK too. We can review how we are getting on periodically to ensure that you are getting what you need from our sessions.

I have a particular interest in working with people who struggle with anxiety, low self-esteem, perfectionist tendencies, relationships and depression as well as clients who have had suffered trauma and abuse in childhood and clients who are struggling with complex bereavement and loss.
