About me

Who am I?

Hi, I'm Sadie. My experience over the past seven years has been working with autism, ADHD, eating disorders, childhood trauma, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, OCD, birth trauma, birth loss and PTSD in private practise and NHS settings. In my work I offer a compassionate, non-judgemental and confidential service for adults and teenagers.

I believe the impact of trauma on our society is underestimated. This can range from traumatic incidents or abuse, to unintentional neglect, bullying, shame and societal or systemic pressures. Together we will aim to foster a compassionate and validating environment, taking a trauma-informed approach to your journey.

Taking the first step into therapy can be daunting. Please contact me via email at psychotherapywithSadie@gmail.com to discuss your needs. It’s helpful for me to know your location in this initial email so we can discuss availability. If we choose to work together, we can then book our first session where we will gently explore in greater depth. Please note that you will not be expected to reveal specific details of any trauma in this first session.

Integrative Psychotherapy

I draw from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Compassion Focussed Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy and Counselling skills to validate and understand your difficulties. Psychotherapy will integrate elements from these approaches according to your individual needs, treatment goals, history, and personality.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference. EMDR therapy shows that the mind can heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma. When you cut your hand, your body works to close the wound. If a foreign object or repeated injury irritates the wound, it festers and causes pain. Once the block is removed, healing resumes. EMDR therapy demonstrates that a similar sequence of events occurs with mental processes. The brain’s information processing system naturally moves toward a state of mental health. If the system is blocked or imbalanced by the impact of a disturbing event, the emotional wound festers and can cause intense suffering. Once the block is removed, healing resumes. We use EMDR to activate your natural healing processes.

Internal Family Systems Therapy

Internal family systems (IFS) is an increasingly popular form of psychotherapy that considers the mind to be naturally made up of “parts” that take on different roles, such as an inner critic or inner child, and consist of wounded parts and painful feelings like anger and shame. There are also parts that try to control and protect the person from the pain of the wounded parts. The sub-personalities are often in conflict with each other and with one’s core Self, a concept that describes the confident, compassionate, whole person that is at the core of every individual. The goal of IFS is to help clients access “Self” so that they can heal wounded parts and bring their minds into balance.

IFS is an evidence-based practice used to treat a range of mental health disorders including anxiety, depression, autoimmune disease, PTSD, substance misuse, and eating disorders.
