About me
Hi I'm Becky. Welcome to my profile where I explain a bit about me as a counsellor and what you can expect from our counselling together.
I am passionate about helping my client to find a greater understanding of themself and what they need to feel better. We will work together to find out how therapy works best for you. The focus of our sessions will be on your needs, whatever they are, and wellbeing. In a confidential space you are safe to explore how you feel, develop some clarity about any changes that you want to bring to your life and find ways to make those changes happen. When you share, I'll listen, respond with care, and sensitively question so I can understand more fully. You might find you don't always know the answers and that's ok. We'll be curious together asking the questions in different ways until we fathom them out.
Counselling can be seen as a journey. A journey where you're in control and, with my support, you can search for whatever is important to you. It can be short, it can be long, but, however the journey may be, for very many people, it is liberating and empowering.
Everybody's journey is different. My training was Integrative so I have gathered many different tools for different situations and different journeys. Using these we can build a strong, trusting relationship so that you can feel safe as you travel forwards. No matter how long you need me to listen, I will always cherish the opportunity to be with you on your journey. Happy to work creatively if you find comfort in drawing, writing or imagery, you can decide how far and how fast you want to travel.
Some clients also like to work somatically which means we keep very aware of how the body, as well as the mind, is effected by the past and present. Often when our brain is not so clear about how we're feeling our body can give us clues by the types of sensations we can recognise and where and when we notice them.
Before I came to counselling I worked in the performing arts and later in SEND and mainstream schools. This led me to work closely with young people who have neurodivergence. Both these working experiences were very much about good communication and have shown me the importance of listening, a skill that is essential when a client feels brave enough to share information very personal to them.
If you are feeling ready to embark on a counselling journey, email me or book a call. I am looking forward to hearing about how I can help you develop a deeper sense of control and increased wellbeing and ultimately become who you want to be.

Experience
Along with my private adult counselling I have counselling experience working in agencies with young people and adults. I also counsel in a school for students who are challenged by the boundaries of mainstream education.
In my past, although I worked in mainstream, a lot of my time in education was spent with students who had autism and special educational needs. This work was very much about uncovering the best ways for each individual to communicate emotionally as well as physically so they could thrive, not only in their learning, but lifetime journeys. These skills I transfer to my counselling as a way of helping my client develop their uniqueness.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information
I currently counsel adults both online and face to face. This can be short term or long term. We will do a review after 6 weeks and intermittently after that so that we can be sure we are going in the right direction.
