About me
I have always worked in the helping professions and started my career in nursing in 1995. I worked as a registered nurse, latterly specialising in palliative care, until 2015 when I commenced the Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling at York St. John University.
As a counsellor I work from a person-centred perspective and all my work is relational in nature. I am a registered member of the BACP and their ethical framework will be the foundation of our work together. I have a wide range of experience in counselling adults and young adults aged 16 years and over, and worked for 6 years in a FE College providing support to students aged 16 years plus. I am currently project manager of a new mental health support service for young people aged 14-21.
A safe, respectful and confidential relationship will be the basis of our work together. I believe that everyone is unique and I will listen very carefully to you, to your feelings and the issues that may be troubling you, so that we may explore together the changes that you may wish to happen.
I understand that thinking about starting counselling may feel daunting, and you may be anxious about contacting me and I would like to reassure you that I will do my best to ensure that you feel supported and safe throughout our time together. If you feel that I might be right for you please do get in touch or you can book an initial free appointment above. The initial appointment will take place either over the telephone or online and this will provide the opportunity for us to discuss how we might work together and for you to decide if I am the right person for you.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a registered member of the BACP and have 8 years of experience in providing counselling to adults, and young adults 16-18 years, and have supported people across a wide range of issues.
I am qualified to offer counselling and clinical supervision both face-to-face and via remote means including online and telephone.
I am a qualified clinical supervisor having completed the Advanced Certificate in Clinical Supervision including online and telephone work and I am able to offer face-to-face supervision via remote means (telephone and online). I can also provide supervision to those who work with their clients remotely (telephone and online).
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
