About me

These are difficult times and for many of us, and there's never been a greater need to talk, make sense of things and be heard. Whatever your reason for seeking help, it’s important to find someone you can connect with: who helps you feel comfortable, safe and understood. As a counsellor, its my role to be supportive and make my clients feel listened to and valued.

How can counselling help?

Hello, I'm Rachel, a qualified counsellor and accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), working with children, young people and adults across Lincolnshire. As a person-centred counsellor, my approach is open; my aim is to provide a relaxed, welcoming and safe space to talk and explore your thoughts and feelings.

I want you to feel supported and valued and accepted without judgement: but most importantly I want you to feel that your voice is truly heard. Of course, sometimes its hard to find that voice, especially with someone you've never met before.

What can I expect from counselling?

These sessions are yours: it might be that you are at ease talking... so we'll talk. Or you may prefer to express thoughts and feelings through drawing or through play... in which case we'll grab the pens, paper or a game and we'll explore your feelings that way.

Or it might be that you feel a greater connection to animals than people. This is where Animal Assisted Therapy can add such value. Where appropriate, I work alongside Chester, my therapy dog, to enable you to get the best from your sessions and encourage you to find the freedom to let go of your worries.

Training, qualifications & experience

My qualifications include:

  • Level 5 Professional Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
  • BACP Accreditation
  • Animal Assisted Therapy in Counselling
  • British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) Certificate of Proficiency
  • Level 3 Diploma in Counselling Skills
  • Level 3 Award in Child Counselling
  • Working with Children & Young People CPD Diploma
  • Safeguarding Children - Level 3

As an accredited member of the BACP, I follow their Ethical Framework which ensures that I offer you a professional, safe and consistent service.

I am experienced in working with clients who are looking for help with their anxiety, self-harm, transitioning, ADHD, low self esteem and depression. I specialise in working with young people and enlist the help of my therapy dog, Chester, when applicable.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

How can counselling help me?

As a person-centred counsellor, I see the therapist and client as equals and believe that it is the warm and trusting relationship we develop that helps bring about positive change: it's not about me telling you what to do or trying to 'fix' you.

With some clients, building a relationship in which they feel able to open up, reveal and share their vulnerabilities is by far the hardest part. This is where I find Animal Assisted Therapy can be really helpful.

Chester, my Golden Retriever, works alongside me where appropriate: experiencing that unconditional affection of a trained therapy animal during counselling sessions can really help clients to find calm and understanding... allowing them to share what might otherwise have seemed impossible.

I work as a counsellor in schools across south Lincolnshire including Lincoln, Grantham and Sleaford and work online with university students around the UK. I also run my own private practice from home in North Rauceby, near Sleaford.

I believe we can all benefit from counselling:  and that caring for our mental health is as important as caring for our physical health. Please call or email me if you think I might be able to help you find your voice and your way through.
