About me
I'm Paul, a person-centred, integrative counsellor. I call upon a wide and eclectic range of techniques and strategies to help you. With over 38 years’ experience, I have helped many people overcome challenges and find effective, new and refreshing ways to manage themselves, others and situations effectively. A key aim of the counselling & therapy I offer is to enhance your satisfaction with and success in life.
I provide a safe, non-judgmental, ‘strong’ space where clients can explore their thoughts, feelings, and concerns. Through deep listening and empathy, our productive therapeutic alliance builds trust and collaboration and ensures meaningful progress is made.
In the context of supporting you to manage your life better, feel more satisfied and 'in control', I will help you to ask searching, challenging and sometimes difficult questions of yourself, your relationships and situations in which you find yourself.
Whether you find yourself struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, or simply seeking personal growth, facing difficult choices, challenges or dilemmas, I am here to work with and support you through each step along the way.
All sessions are individually tailored to meet you ‘where you are’ at that time and focus on helping you make sense of your world as you experience it now. There is an emphasis on ensuring you move forward, often with new insights, supported by new skills, values and abilities.
Training, qualifications & experience
For 39 years I have been a counsellor, therapist, teacher and lecturer.
In 1985 I took a course in Rogerian person-centred counselling, followed in 2000 with a Masters in Counselling & Guidance and an MBA in 2017.
I continue to teach counselling alongside my practice.
I am a member of the BACP and from 2007 - 2014 sat on the Executive Committee and, for a time, was Chair of Counselling in Education.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
