About me

I am a fully qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist; an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I adhere to ethical and professional conduct when working with clients and this is guided by the BACP framework.

My approach to therapy is Person-centred, Integrative which means that the way I work with people is influenced by a number of different types of therapy and theory. I choose to work in this way as I believe that we are all unique individuals with different ways of seeing the world, and different ways of thinking and processing our feelings.

My main influences in therapy practice are Humanistic, Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural and Existential perspectives of human development and emotions. I am also interested in Mindfulness/Mentalisation and how they can help people gain a greater sense over their emotions.

Training, qualifications & experience

It is important to me to work collaboratively and flexibly using skills and techniques that fit you as an individual. I will also offer you a safe, private space to fully explore your thoughts and feelings. A fundamental part of the way I work is to fully accept people as they are, in a non-judgemental way, showing warmth, kindness and empathy.

I have experience of working within the NHS and the Charity Sectors with people facing difficult issues and events that impacted on their mental health and wellbeing. I have worked with people experiencing personal issues such as anxiety, depression, loss, relational issues, relationship struggles and stress.

I have also faced challenges in life and have had my own therapy to work through my thoughts and feelings. This personal experience means I understand what it’s like to seek therapy and sit with a new therapist, uncertain about where the process might take me.

My Qualifications:

  • PGDip Counselling & Psychotherapy
  • PGDip Personal Development & Creative Writing
  • BA (Hons) Creative Writing
  • NVQ Level 2 & Level 3 in Counselling Skills

Please email me to arrange an initial session where we can talk about the things you’d like to bring to therapy and we can decide if we’re a good fit.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

First session

I reserve fifty minute session for you alone, at a day and time that works for both of us.

When we meet, the first thing I will do is be open to your life experiences; I will do so by carefully listening to you and giving you enough space to tell your story; being present with you in here and now; being congruent and empathetic in communicating back feelings and emotions; giving honest responses.

My commitment to you means that I am by your side at all times sharing your emotional struggle in overcoming life obstacles on your way. Your issue becomes our issue in the therapy room; your burden, becomes our burden and we carry it together.

My approach is person-centred integrative; at the heart of it lies therapeutic relationship – to tailor sessions according to your needs, I would use various techniques as necessary from other modalities such as CBT, Psychodynamic or Compassion Focused Therapy; providing you with the safe space to explore other possible responses/outcomes for the struggle/overcoming obstacle you currently experience.

I am there to facilitate the session but you are the one who leads it as it’s your life and your emotional world. If you never had counselling before, I would suggest to start with the block of six sessions but then it is also up to you to decide how many sessions you feel are needed. I am here for you.
