About me

I am an experienced, Accredited counsellor based in Canterbury, and also available online.  I will work with you in confidence and without judgement to explore your past and present difficulties and help you find ways to make positive changes.

I am qualified, BACP accredited, and have over 15 years experience.

“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate”. (Carl Jung)

Working together safely and carefully to understand and explore the root causes of your particular challenges, I can support you to move forward and feel better.  We will always work at a pace that is comfortable for you with whatever issues or difficulties you feel ready to discuss.

My initial training integrated psychodynamic and humanistic theories, and I have a degree in CBT approaches. I have had considerable post-qualification training in trauma work and am supported by a trauma-informed supervisor. This means I have a broad range of knowledge and interventions to find exactly the right approach to benefit each individual client and work in a way that is most comfortable, safe, and appropriate for you.

I have worked with adults and older teens in various settings for over 15 years, including schools, college and university counselling, and have a wealth of experience working with people from all walks of life with a wide range of issues.

A comfortable, trusting relationship with your counsellor is paramount, and I suggest we have an initial, informal conversation online or on the phone to talk through what you hope to gain from the therapy and how I can support you to achieve this.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a First Class Honours Degree in Cognitive Behavioural Therapeutic Approaches and a Diploma in Integrative Counselling, plus an Advanced Certificate in Online and Telephone Counselling (ACTO Level 2).  As a Registered and Accredited Member of the BACP, I follow their Code of Ethics and work professionally and with integrity.

My professional development over the years has reflected my interest in trauma-informed work, including training with renowned experts such as Janina Fisher, and this has been invaluable in helping clients with many issues including: anxiety, low self-esteem, self-harm, depression, OCD and intrusive thoughts. I have significant experience in working with clients with neuro-diverse conditions, particularly ADHD. I have worked in the past for a domestic abuse charity and also have experience supporting survivors of sexual abuse.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
