About me

I originally trained as a person-centred counsellor and have over the years developed my skills in other modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy, so that I can tailor my support to respond to the specific needs of my clients.

I offer an approach that is  caring, accepting and empathic, and provide an environment that is both safe and confidential. I will give the necessary conditions that will help you to explore your issues, understand your feelings, develop acceptance and find peace.

I am an accredited member of the National Counselling and Psycotherapy Society (NCPS) and a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). Through adherence to their ethical frameworks and their requirements for supervision and continuous professional development (CPD) I am able to offer my clients a consistently high level of service.

Like many therapists, I came to work as a counsellor because of my own positive experience. I was amazed at how it helped me work through my issues and find the solutions I needed to transform my life.

Sometimes we can pinpoint the cause of our distress, such as a bereavement for instance. Often though it can be something far more intangible. There is just this sense that things are not right and no matter what you do you just can't seem to be happy.

Counselling gives us the opportunity to discover the source of our unhappiness, to resolve our issues and ultimately find the peace of mind we seek.

As well as currently working in private practice, clinical supervision and tutoring, l have previously worked for a number of years in the Employee Assistance Programme  (EAP) secrtor. Prior to this I gained experience as a counsellor at the Macmillan Wellbeing Centre and also for the Manchester And Salford Counselling Service (MASCS).

I have helped clients with a wide range of issues and have extensive experience of bereavement, depression, anxiety and helping adults dealing with childhood trauma.

Many people I have worked with have spoken of their surprise at having being able to talk so openly with me about their issues and the pain that they are feeling. I always consider it a honour to be invited into a person's inner world as they try to identify and resolve those matters that are causing such distress.

I am very passionate about the work I do and for me there is nothing more satisfying than seeing a person become all that they can be.

Our first contact would be an informal half-hour session, which I offer to all clients free of charge and with no obligation. This is an opportunity for us to get to know each other, for you to say a little about what is going on for you and most importantly to decide whether I am the right counsellor for you.

If we are happy to continue then we would look to arrange an hourly session, usually once a week and, where possible, on a day and at a time that suits you.

Although working through our issues can be difficult, the therapeutic journey most often leads to an empowering and life changing conclusion. I would be privileged to accompany you on your journey and I thank you for taking the time to read my profile.

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration.
