About me

Chair of BACP Coaching Division, MA (Psych), PG Cert Coaching (Senior Practitioner)

I’m an experienced Psychotherapist (MA) and Executive Coach (Senior Practitioner) and with a strong business background of leadership experience.  My integrated therapeutic-coaching approach helps clients thrive by combining the solutions-focussed energy of coaching with the healing power of psychotherapy. My collaborative and creative way of working with clients is underpinned by psychological principles of enhancing self-awareness and self-acceptance, enabling authentic and sustainable change to be achieved. With a warm, energetic and compassionate way of being, I draw on a wide coaching and therapy toolkit along with an understanding of workplace challenges, to tailor my approach to the unique challenges and goals of each client.

How can psychotherapeutically-informed coaching can help me?

The solutions-focussed ‘3 Cs’ therapeutic coaching strategy works holistically to support clients to create clarity, confidence and change. My background and skillset enable me to provide the structure and framework necessary to facilitate forward momentum, whilst also working empathically at emotional depth. My psychotherapeutically-informed approach integrates humanistic, psychodynamic, and CBT ways of working to help clients understand their cognitive and emotional responses in the here-and-now, clarify their strengths, identify previously unconscious unhelpful narratives and self-limiting beliefs.

The process is interactive and dynamic, and while we'll work deeply into the challenges you're facing, there will be moments of levity and fun too. Sometimes we will just talk and explore, but we'll often create a written record of our session together for you to reflect on, in the form of notes, a diagram, or plan of action. Sessions usually take place fortnightly or monthly, and we may agree work to be undertaken between sessions, such as practising a new skill (such as regulating the nervous system) or taking a next step towards achieving an objective.  Clients experience enhanced resilience and performance in the short-term, and are supported to develop helpful techniques and coping strategies to ensure coaching goals and longer-term sustainable change is achieved.

With twenty years experience in business roles before retraining in psychology, I fully understand the highs and lows of balancing busy family and working lives, as well as what it takes to create sustainable psychological and behavioural change. As both a qualified and registered Integrative Psychotherapist (MBACP) and Executive Coach (Senior Practitioner MEMCC) working in private practice and within organisations, I help people identify the lives they truly want to lead, and support them throughout the changes they wish to make.

Specialist areas include:

·      Leadership development; career evolution

Who do you work with?

While many of my clients are professionals and senior executives, the ‘3 Cs’ principles of achieving clarity, confidence and change can be successfully applied to any emotional or strategic, personal or business challenge, regardless of age, gender, or professional status.  My approach works well for individuals who enjoy working creatively and collaboratively, are psychologically curious and open to challenge, and are motivated to achieve the changes that will enable them to thrive.  A commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is central to my core personal values.

What happens when I contact you?

We will have a free of charge 20 minute Zoom or phone call first of all. Research suggests that feeling confident and trusting within your relationship with your therapist or coach is closely linked with successful outcomes, so it's important for me that you feel confident my approach feels right for you.  We will discuss how therapeutic coaching may help you achieve your goals, and talk about the number of sessions we may like to plan for.

How can the depth of your training help me?

My training in Executive Coaching alongside humanistic, cognitive-behavioural and psychodynamic therapies help me most effectively understand and empathise with your unique background and life experiences. We will work creatively and collaboratively together within a relationship built on trust, warmth, and respect, to carefully explore your feelings, emotions and behaviour. I'm trained to understand how childhood experiences in the past can unconsciously influence our emotions and behaviour in the present, and help you develop new strategies that will enable you to overcome challenges and achieve your goals.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
