About me

Thank you for reading my profile.

My aim is to empower you to make changes for the better in life and relationships. I provide a supportive and accepting environment where you may voice difficult thoughts and feelings. Many of us are very hard on ourselves; I take a compassionate approach in my work as the first step to helping you to feel compassionate to yourself. I may also offer challenge, which can help you to see things from a different angle.

I am used to working with loss, grief, bereavement, anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties and many other issues which arise in the counselling room. I have wide experience of working with people who are directly or indirectly affected by cancer, and I have a particular interest in developmental trauma. I believe strongly in a holistic approach to both physical and mental wellbeing.

I am an integrative therapist, which means that I bring together different theories to help you to understand any difficulties that you are experiencing. The core of my training is in humanistic theories, so collaboration, compassion and authenticity are at the heart of my practice.

In counselling, we generally spend the first session hearing your story, and discussing what we will focus on. We decide on a timescale and a way of working that suits you. I offer short and longer-term therapy.

Please contact me if you would like to discuss whether working together might be of benefit. I look forward to hearing from you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling from Banbury Counselling Academy and I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I have additional training in online therapy, psychodynamic counselling and group analysis.

I have spent several years in different roles in cancer support centres, and I have experience working with young people in a secondary school.  Before I qualified as a counsellor, I worked in the healthcare sector in a practice that specialised in pelvic disorders, mainly, but not exclusively, in women. I’ve also worked in cancer research, obtaining a PhD in genetics, and working directly with families who live with the challenge of being at high risk of cancer and other diseases.

I am a qualified mediator with training in conflict coaching and experience working with neighbourhood and family disputes. I find that this knowledge can be helpful if people have particular difficulties with communication that they need to address. I continue to work for a charity that helps young people and families, and neighbours, to resolve disputes.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
