About me

I’m Lucy (she/ her) the founder of Green Sky Counselling and a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I have been working with children, young people and adults in a range of roles for over twelve years. I have experience in supporting people with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, grief, stress and many other difficulties that may be causing tangled thoughts and feelings. I will not tell you what to do, never judge and find connecting with people and sharing trust is a privilege, helping you feel supported to share whatever is troubling you.

Green Sky Counselling offers a range of confidential therapy sessions to young people 11+ and adults in the BCP and wider Dorset areas.

Green Sky Therapeutic Play Psychotherapy offers a tailored approach for your child aged 5 - 13 through the use of integrative, holistic and non-directive Therapeutic Play, combined with my Counselling and Eco-Therapy work.

Adult Counselling

I have experienced my own personal counselling as an adult during my training and can identify the starting point you are at. I believe that by making your way to my website, you have taken the first step in moving forward on your life journey.  The sessions are yours and what you talk about is up to you. There are all kinds of reasons you might decide to start counselling, and what you talk about in the sessions will probably depend on that. If on the other hand, your reason is less specific (for instance, if you have been experiencing symptoms of anxiety or depression) we can start there and explore these feelings.

I offer traditional talking therapy, walk-and-talk therapy, and creative therapy interspersed into these sessions if the client finds this appealing. All my therapeutic work is underpinned by the BCAP’s Ethical Framework.

Children's Therapeutic Play Counselling

Therapeutic Play integrated as the foundation of child’s counselling sessions has huge benefits in enabling children to explore what is troubling them in a non-confrontational way. The adult expectation of conveying feelings through words is not expected or required in this therapeutic approach- instead using sand play, clay, puppets, art, role play and toys to express a symbolic and metaphorical language to represent life and the difficulties they may be experiencing. This style of therapy helps children explore their individual experiences and responses to their world in their own time, in a deeply meaningful but safe way, resulting in them feeling less overwhelmed and making things more manageable over time.

Your child will also have the option to integrate Eco-Therapy into their sessions from a space in the garden on site. This work is underpinned by the PTUK and BACP's Ethical Framework.

Young People Counselling

I have not forgotten the challenges of being a young person and this is one of the reasons I am so passionate about supporting young people in their lives today. The challenges and stresses you may be experiencing are vast including, exams, relationships, school, identity, family, bullying, online problems, worries about the future and mental and physical health.

In addition to your worries, your brain is changing, which will impact how you think, feel and interact with others. I will never judge you and accept you as a unique individual, working alongside you to understand yourself better, accept yourself, and manage your feelings and stresses all in a neutral place.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

Talking therapy

In a quiet location in Parkstone, Poole, I offer talking therapy sessions from a secluded and confidential Coach House.
The Coach House is warm and welcoming with a homely yet professional feel, with its own access.

I listen and offer a safe place to talk, helping you find your own answers without judgement. Together, we can make sense of things and resolve or find a way to live with complicated feelings.

I can help you recognise unhelpful patterns in the way you think and behave, finding ways to change them if that is what you want to do.

Therapeutic Play and Eco Therapy

There is a playroom equipped for Therapeutic Play sessions and an area of the fully enclosed garden to explore Eco Therapy. This is all on the ground floor of the Coach House building in Parkstone.

It is important that the parent is able to commit to supporting their child to attend regular, weekly sessions at the same time for the duration of the agreed period of therapy.

Your child will need to wear clothes and shoes that they are able to be messy in.

Walk and talk therapy

This is where the therapeutic components of talking therapy remain but are simply taken outdoors.

Walking side by side can be much less intimidating and helps release inhibition.

This style of therapy can benefit many people, as maybe you like the outdoors or work/spend lessons inside a building and don’t get a chance to be outdoors much.

Being outdoors is intrinsically linked to allowing our thoughts to come free. Whether still or walking, we will work at a pace that suits you.

Creative Therapy

Integrating creativity into sessions will always be the client’s choice. This is not about being good at creative arts but nourishing our creative avenues, allowing us to see the joy found in unshackling ourselves from the constraints of expectations.

Creativity in therapy allows symbolic expression and communication, making all the difference to someone finding it hard to put their thoughts and feelings into words.
