About me

Seeking therapy is a courageous and brave step.

The therapeutic relationship between the counsellor and the client plays a pivotal role in influencing the success of therapy.

Above all else, the key to successful therapy lies in finding the therapist who is the right fit for you. This decision hinges on personal preference and a genuine connection. Often, you will intuitively sense whether the therapist is the right match, sometimes even from the very first contact. Trusting your instincts in this process is essential as it sets the foundation for a positive therapeutic experience.  Please do get in touch via email or telephone so we can discuss your needs in more detail.

Drawing from personal experience, I distinctly recall the apprehension I felt when I first saw a therapist - this was well before I embarked on my own journey as one. With no prior experience of therapy, I found myself at a loss on where to begin? How does this process even unfold? What do I say? Am I approaching it correctly?...If I didn't have anxiety before, I sure do now!

Approaching it with openness, honesty and authentic curiosity enhances the chances of a positive and transformative experience. Remember, therapy is a gradual process; just like a plant needs nurturing and care to grow, therapy allows you to develop and address your challenges at your own pace.  Often, people embark on a healing journey through therapy, discovering needs they didn't even realise they had.

I am a dedicated and empathic professional counsellor with a passion for helping individuals navigate through life's challenges with strength and resilience. My extensive experience spans across clients of all ages, including young people, and I offer a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space for exploration and growth either in person (my practice is in Ifield, West Sussex) or online.

My counselling approach is integrative, which means I tailor the therapeutic process to suit your individual needs and preferences. Encouraging self-awareness and understanding through this collaborative process, we can identify effective coping strategies enabling you to embrace positive changes in your  life. Please do get in contact and make a positive change today.

Training, qualifications & experience

I bring a wealth of expertise and practical experience to my counselling practice. I hold a Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling, which has equipped me with a solid theoretical foundation in counselling and am currently pursuing a master's qualification in psychotherapy.

I am a member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), NCPS (National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society) & NCIP (National Counsel of Integrative Psychotherapists).

However, it is my hands-on experience that truly shapes my approach. I have worked extensively in a hospice setting, supporting individuals and families through the challenges of bereavement and grief. Additionally, my time spent as part of the crisis intervention team at The Samaritans has honed my ability to provide empathic and immediate support to individuals in distress.

These invaluable experiences have deepened my understanding of human emotions and resilience, allowing me to create a compassionate and effective therapeutic environment for my clients.  Please get in touch by phone or email so we can determine together if I am the right therapist to support you in your journey.

With a wealth of experience, I specialise in providing guidance and support for a range of issues, including the complexities of blended families, step parenting and family issues.  Relationship difficulties, such as communication issues or a sense of disconnect in your relationship, parenting support and divorce counselling.

In the journey of love and partnership, challenges are inevitable.  Sometimes, these difficulties can feel overwhelming.  Addressing these concerns has the potential to rescue your relationship from the brink of divorce.  Improving communication, understanding each other better and finding solutions that work for both of you.  With the right support and a willingness to grow, many couples can find renewed happiness and discover fulfilment in their relationship.

Outside of psychotherapy, I have experience of working in a professional setting and understand the pressure that individuals can face in both their work and personal lives. This broader experience provides me with valuable insights into various life perspectives.

What are the reasons people seek counselling?

People seek counselling for various reasons. Whether you're dealing with recent loss, struggling with long-standing emotional issues, or feeling overwhelmed by anxiety and depression, counselling can provide the support and tools you need to overcome these challenges.  Additionally, counselling can improve your communication skills, strengthen relationships, foster personal growth and self-discovery.

Ultimately, people go to therapy to find support, gain new perspectives, develop coping skills, and work towards positive changes that lead to improved well-being and overall life satisfaction. Counselling offers a professional and compassionate environment for individuals to explore their thoughts and feelings, and it can be a transformative experience for many.

What to expect in your first session?

The first session, is a crucial step in establishing a positive therapeutic relationship. I offer a confidential and supportive space where you can freely explore your thoughts and emotions, gain insight into your patterns, and develop healthier ways of coping.  We will go through the principles of confidentiality and you will be asked to share some basic information.  I find that a helpful start is to work from what led you to make that call or send that email starting this process.  We will explore the challenges you have been facing and the goals that you hope to achieve.  Any questions you may have will be addressed and based on our discussions, the potential next steps towards scheduling regular counselling sessions agreed.  This is a two-way process and honest communication is essential.  Additionally, counselling can improve your communication skills, strengthen relationships, foster personal growth and self-discovery.  Please get in touch so we can arrange an initial 15 minute discovery session.
