About me

Welcome to my page. I offer counselling and psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and groups, on an open-ended basis; or for an agreed number of sessions.

I am UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy) and BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) registered. I am accredited by the Guild of Psychotherapists and the Universities Psychotherapy and Counselling Association. I am a member of the Group Anaytic Society International and the Neuropsychoanalysis Association. I am a UKCP registered clinical supervisor and I have a DBS Enhanced Certificate, issued in July 2016.

My individual clients come into counselling or psychotherapy for a variety of reasons, including:

  • depression
  • emotional problems
  • relationship difficulties and breakdown
  • family problems and conflicts
  • abuse or neglect during childhood
  • anxiety
  • stress
  • loss and bereavement
  • work-related problems
  • child sexual abuse
  • Post Traumatic Stress
  • eating disorders
  • self esteem
  • personality problems.

Not everyone knows what is bothering them, however. It is possible to feel confused and unhappy without being clear why. You might be struggling to make sense of an experience, or who you feel you are, or perhaps you feel your life lacks meaning.

Where are the sessions held?
I have consulting rooms in Lincoln, and London, but I also offer online appointments (via Skype and FaceTime) to those who are unable, for a variety of reasons - including time constraints, mobility issues, and location - to attend face-to-face appointments. It is important to make sure you have a secure internet connection for online sessions.

Lincoln consulting rooms are situated off the High Street in LN5, close to South Park, with access to the A15, the Newark Road, and city centre. They are also within easy reach of the Tritton Road, and the A46. Unrestricted parking is available.

London consulting rooms are at The Guild of Psychotherapists, in Nelson Square, two minutes walk from Southwark tube station, and ten minutes walk from both Blackfriars, and Waterloo rail stations. I have one available session in London currently at 11 a.m. on Thursdays.

What are the next steps?
The first step to entering counselling or psychotherapy is to set up an initial appointment. This will last up to 75 minutes so there is plenty of time to explore the issues that have led you to make the appointment. And, there is no pressure to make up your mind about entering counselling or psychotherapy with me, then and there. I will always suggest that you take time to think about it, first.

If you wish to talk to me before arranging an appointment, please telephone me. (if I am not immediately available I will return your call as soon as possible). Initial appointments can also be arranged by email here. Please mention whether you are seeking a daytime or evening appointment in Lincoln or London.

Ongoing appointments usually take place on the same days and at the same times each week; either for an agreed period or on an open-ended basis. These sessions are 50 mins long.

What happens in the first session?
This is where you are able to meet me, ask me any questions you have, and discover whether I am someone you feel comfortable working with.

It also gives me the opportunity to explore with you the issues that have led you to make this appointment and to take a brief personal history from you about your experiences and relationships so that together we can see whether psychotherapy or counselling is something that might be of benefit to you.

This initial appointment lasts up to an hour and a quarter.

There is no pressure to make up your mind, then and there. I will suggest that you go away and think about it before deciding to enter psychotherapy or counselling with me.

I welcome you to give me a call on: 07913 746337 or click here to send me an email.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have 25 years experience working in the NHS, the corporate sector, and for various counselling and psychotherapy organisations, as well as in private practice. Dual trained to work with individuals and groups, both my qualifying courses are UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy) accredited trainings.

Both my qualifying trainings required me to undergo psychotherapy myself. Twice a week psychotherapy for a minimum of two years before being ellingible to train is required by the Guild of Psychotherapists, followed by twice a week psychotherapy during the entirety of the four year training course. My group training required me to be in once a week group psychotherapy throughout the three year training. This experience of extensive psychotherapy is the hallmark of the best trainings. It means that practitioners can work through potential issues of their own so that they are then able to work with their clients from a position of emotional and psychological wellbeing.

My Qualifications:

BA Hons Philosophy: University of Sheffield,

Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy: The Guild of Psychotherapists,

Group Analytic Psychotherapy: PG Dip. University of London

Further information

Couple counselling
Couple counselling is about facilitating an understanding of the conflicts that arise between a couple, and exploring ways to resolve them. Couples sometimes have separate sessions as part of this process. They are usually offered blocks of sessions, with occasional top up sessions after the main period of counselling has finished, if required. They may also be asked to put into practice techniques between sessions.

Groups
Group analysis can be helpful in exploring relationship difficulties, in the past or present. It has the added advantage of being a lower-cost option too.

Mixed-gender and mixed-age analytic group, with a maximum of 8 members who want to address problems like: depression, anxiety, social isolation and/or relationship difficulties. Members will be asked to make a minimum commitment of a year to this group but it will be possible to stay longer if they wish. Self-referrals and referrals from NHS and private practice colleagues are welcome.

I facilitate staff reflection groups - in the NHS, charities, and corporate sector - and supervision groups for individual and group psychotherapists and counsellors – both training and qualified practitioners. I am a member of the Group Analytic Society International.

Clinical Supervision
I am a UKCP registered clinical supervisor for other psychotherapists and counsellors, who work with either groups, or individuals.

I offer face-to-face supervision to practitioners in and around Lincoln, and online supervision to those in London or further afield.

I am a member of the Universities Psychotherapy and Counselling Association, The Group Analytic Society (International), and the Neuropsychoanalysis Association.
