About me

Hi, my name is Laura and I am a BACP registered mental health counsellor, with working experience in the NHS and in private practice. I work with adult individuals and with couples, helping them to manage symptoms of disconnection, anxiety, depression, low self-confidence, and relational issues involving friends, family and significant others.

I offer a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space to help you process your feelings and understand your challenges. I do offer practical tools that you might wish to use in troubling times.

Email me today and let's find a way forward  together!

Training, qualifications & experience

I come to the counselling profession with a background in business management and engineering (MA in Innovation Management and a BA in Quantity Surveying). I am also a qualified yoga teacher.

I am a professionally trained Integrative-Relational Psychotherapeutic Counsellor using a range of psychotherapeutic theories (including somatic therapy, psychodynamic, gestalt, neuroscience and creative work) which allows me to value the uniqueness of each client.

As a therapist, my clients benefit from my training in Trauma Therapy (NAOS Institute), Compassionate Inquiry (Dr. Gabor Maté),  Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR, Dr. Frank Corrigan), Internal Family Systems (IFS, Dr. Richard Scwartz) and The Rewind Technique (Dr. David Muss).

I am currently training with Terry Real on working with couples more effectively.

I am a structured therapist. I have your goals in mind with every session and so we work intentionally towards resolving one issue at a time, based on your priorities.

Creativity is a personal quality and an area of interest for me therapeutically, so I like using tools like therapy cards, wooden dolls, coloured pens and paper, to engage both hemispheres of the brain and help you make sense of what is troubling you and what solutions might be available.

I have supported a variety of clients over the years, both in the NHS and in private practice and I look forward to meeting you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

The way I work is relationally helping my clients to notice and to clarify to themselves and others what it is that they feel and need, without judgement. It starts with perceiving cues from the body, so the present moment focus on emotional mapping is important. This leads to emotional intelligence.

I help to name relationship patterns that I notice in the client-therapist relationship, to help the client deepen their personal awareness in their relationships. Reflecting together on patterns is what usually helps us all get unstuck, if we can face it in a safe environment.

I love working with the nervous system and teaching my clients about what it is and how it works. I often offer an exercise or practical experiment to help consolidate new knowledge.
