About me

I am an Integrative Psychotherapist and Psychotherapeutic Counsellor with a child and adolescent specialism. This means that I am qualified to work with all age groups at depth. My present clientele ranges from the age of 4 to 100! Obviously, working with children and young people requires a specialist who can facilitate gentle change through play and creative media.

This quality facilitates my work with any age group as whether we want to admit it or not, we all carry our younger selves with us. My work times vary to facilitate children, young people, and adults after school and work.

However, due to growing awareness and demand it is becoming commonplace for students to access therapy during school hours. Schools are showing increasing flexibility in supporting students' access to mental health support and I work with many young people from across the country during school hours. It's always best to have a chat first to explore the possibilities and see what we can work out between us. This is a very personal and individual experience and definitely not a 'one size fits all' approach.

Training, qualifications & experience

My experience in both private and state primary and secondary schools in England and Scotland provided me with the initial curiosity to become a Psychotherapist. I wanted to understand the behaviours, emotions, and relationships of the small people I was in contact with.

I feel that my experience as a parent of three and having been a child and teen myself concretises my empathy and congruence when working with any age group. Having studied for over six years with the Northern Guild in Newcastle, gaining the highest accredited psychotherapeutic qualifications, and adding to the research base with an MSc in psychotherapy, I feel I am at my best when working one-on-one with my clients; whether that be working in the sand, getting messy with paints or sitting 'just talking' with clients of any age.

Coming from an Integrative perspective means that I pull from many differing types of psychotherapy theory but truly believe that it is the therapeutic relationship that will support real and lasting change in my clients.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
