About me

Welcome

I appreciate that starting therapy can feel daunting and anxiety provoking. It is not easy to face your own vulnerabilities and to feel uncomfortable at times. "Growth and change are painful but nothing is more painful as staying stuck somewhere you don't belong". (Mandy Hale)

My specialist area is helping with trauma, in particular domestic violence, sexual and emotional abuse, childhood neglect and disordered eating.

How therapy works

I believe that therapy can be very transformative but it needs a lot of determination and willingness to be honest with oneself. Becoming aware of the unconscious process can bring relief, compassion and an opportunity to make choices of responding to life differently.

How I work

As an Integrative practitioner, I don’t believe in one single approach being adequate for all. My approach is not prescriptive, I don’t judge and don’t give advice. I am to facilitate a genuine, authentic and collaborative relationship where you can feel invited to share whatever is on your mind. Nothing is too small or too big; everything is equally important. I offer a confidential and supportive space where you can be yourself without the fear of being shamed, embarrassed or judged.

In my view, the past experiences are integral to the present self. From early childhood, we learn to adapt to our environment often at the cost of knowing who we really are. Sometimes past experiences can be so powerful that they can prevent us from embracing our lives and living as fully as we dare. I believe that clarifying and understanding them from the perspective of the present can bring change and a move towards personal integration.

My work with children and young people has a more creative approach. I use art as a way of communicating and expressing self which can be too difficult and too painful to name and acknowledge cognitively.

I offer short and long-term therapy to adults, children and young people who may experience a wide range of psychological and emotional difficulties. This may include a current crisis, a pattern of unhelpful, repeating behaviour or an issue from the past.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
