About me

Hello and Welcome

There are so many reasons that lead us to seek counselling, difficulties in our relationships and work, loss or experiences out of our control that can feel really hard to deal with. Trying to make sense of where we find ourselves can be hard.

Counselling is a very personal process and I know how incredibly hard it can feel to make the step to start. I work sensitively to create a safe space for you to feel comfortable to discuss whatever is on your mind and troubling you. I very much trust in you to know what you want to explore and when, I work at your pace.

Together, we can gently explore the all the difficulties you are experiencing, helping you to find understanding and a way forward that is right for you.

What’s Important to Me?

For you, as my client, to be able to express what is important to you. It has taken me a long time to learn how to talk from the heart. What stopped me? Fear of judgement, criticism, conflict, rejection or my self-worth. I know from my own experience, that when we live holding our thoughts and feelings inside we can become ill, we can become anxious, depressed or angry.

We can get stuck in negative communication patterns within our relationships, this can make us unhappy but it can be hard to know how to change things.

My hope is to support you to say what is important to you and to develop the resilience to hold others reactions. We can learn to talk our truth to power with sensitivity and kindness. We can learn to emotionally regulate ourselves and in doing so we can regulate those around us. When we are able to say what we think and feel, we feel heard and seen but most importantly, we feel connected to others.

I can help you to develop a healthy communication style and set healthy boundaries within your relationships, helping you to build relationships built on respect, trust and kindness.

I can support you with

I can support you with feelings of anxiety, depression, loneliness, relationship issues, loss and self-worth issues. You may have experienced trauma or abuse that is still affecting how you live your life now. Sometimes, we can start to feel overwhelmed and unable to cope. When we feel this way, we often try to find ways to help ourselves to feel better, turning to such things as food, alcohol, self-harming. Unfortunately, our coping mechanisms only provide short term relief and then can start to add to our problems.

My Ethos

I know that we are all unique and different, with different backgrounds and experiences, but we are also, all part of the same human family. We all have the need to be seen, to be heard, to feel validated and valued and to be connected to others.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
