About me

My Approach

I believe that therapy is as individual and unique as the client attending. Therapy can only be meaningful and transformative if it fits into the context of one's own self-identity, values and beliefs.

To this end I offer an integrative approach that draws from the three modalities in which I am qualified: person-centred, psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural therapies. By utilising discreet aspects of each we work together to identify patterns and how our life experiences and relationships growing up contributed to their development. We consider how useful these patterns are in your present day life and which aspects might be helpful to change and adapt. Using the core beliefs of person-centred therapy we identify goals that will contribute to developing a healthier view of yourself, changing relationship patterns and behaviours, and living an authentic and fulfilling life. This might be done through developing self awareness, setting short and long term goals, and practicing skills.

Focussing on You

It is important that you always feel in control of your process and that it is meaningful and beneficial to you. This includes consideration and respect for your culture, religion and self-identity.

An essential element of this will be the relationship you are able to build with your therapist. My therapeutic approach is collaborative and aims to empower you with the self-awareness, knowledge and skills to make the decisions and changes that are important and useful to you.

What Is Next?

Contact us by telephone or email to discuss your needs and set up a free no-obligation assessment appointment. At the assessment appointment I will take some information from you, discuss your hopes and goals for therapy and we will agree an approach and plan that works for you.  This will be a good time for you to ask any questions you might have and evaluate whether the process will work for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

My therapeutic approach is an integrative approach, drawing from elements of the three methodologies I have qualifications in. I have completed diplomas in Person-Centred Counselling and Psychodynamic Psychotherapeutic Counselling, and have a BSc (Honours) in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

I have experience working with a broad range of clients with various mental health concerns, as well as in dementia support and bereavement support. I have worked for private agencies, charities and in tertiary education.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.
