About me

Hello, I'm Izzy and I'm a UKCP Accredited Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, working in Bridlington from my Garden Cabin. I can also offer remote sessions by video or phone if coming in person is difficult.

I work relationally, which means we explore your issues and relationships between yourself and others - friends, family, colleagues etc. In our sessions, I listen to what you say and what you are not saying. I also use how I’m feeling about what you are saying to help get a greater understanding of what is happening to you right now. This helps to find a way forward, view things from different perspectives and find a way that is right for you.

We will build a working relationship between us which will allow me to help you work through what is upsetting you, and help you to explore your feelings and emotions in a safe and confidential place.

You may have gone through a difficult experience and need to be able to talk about this in a safe place. Maybe, you are a couple going through a difficult stage in your relationship.

I'm kind and compassionate. I will work creatively with you. I use metaphors to help us understand. Various theories including Transactional Analysis and Gestalt and others underpin my work.

Free Telephone 15-minute session.

Your first contact with me may be an email, phone call or text. From this,  I arrange, with you a good time to call to have a chat about the sort of things you might want to talk about in your sessions and a bit of background details for your selves or both of you if a couple.  It will also give you an idea of what I'm like. You can ask any questions you might have.  If we feel we'll be able to work together, we'll arrange an appointment time that is suitable for you.

First session

You may be quite nervous arriving at my house for the first time, but that is really natural.  I will show you to my counselling cabin and you'll be able to get settled. The Cabin is set in my garden, which has hedges and trees all around.  We will be pretty close to nature.  Once we start we'll go at your pace, you'll be able to take your time.

How many sessions will I need?

Thoughts, feelings and behaviours can get pretty tangled up when we bring in the stresses of everyday life.  Add to this a traumatic event or several events and the tangle gets tighter.  Some of these might be physical health problems, family relationship difficulties, parenting, post-natal depression, bereavement, financial worries, career change, studying, shame, panic attacks, autistic spectrum disorder, ADHD, abuse and a lot more.  At the beginning of our journey together, we may not know how long this will be, but what I suggest is we start with ten sessions, then reassess and at that point.  Some people stay in therapy for several years, some need only a few to steady themselves.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have an Advanced Diploma in Relational Psychotherapeutic Counselling which I gained at Scarborough Counselling Psychotherapy Training Institute.

I have certificates in a wide range of topics, including Gestalt Therapy, Bereavement, Online & phone counselling, Autism, and Couples Counselling.

I have been Volunteering for many years with a National Mental Health Charity on its Listening Service and for five years with a National Bereavement Charity offering individual support sessions to those who have experienced the death of someone close.

I also have helped with a Homeless Charity, worked in the Inpatient Unit at a Hospice, and helped with teaching English skills to refugees.

This gives me a wide understanding of situations where people are feeling distressed.
