About me

The counselling service I offer is warm, genuine and understanding. It is based on the belief that we are all individuals who deserve to be accepted for who we are and are able to make our own decisions about what is best for us.

How Counselling Can Help

Counselling gives you the time and space to explore your feelings and experiences however difficult these may be. It is a rare experience in which you are listened to and accepted without judgement or advice.

Counselling is often referred to as the ‘Talking Therapy’ because talking about problems is therapeutic in itself. I often describe it as ‘getting whatever is troubling you out so it does not stay inside you where it can do the most damage’.

Counselling helps you to find a better sense of well-being and a way to move on from whatever is troubling you.

What to Expect in the First Session

I offer a free 30 minute first session to clarify how I work which will allow you to decide whether I am the right Counsellor for you. I will answer any questions you have and if you decide to book further sessions we will decide these together. Because everyone is individual you may decide you would like weekly, fortnightly or even monthly sessions so this will depend on your need.

Person-Centred counselling is open ended which means that the sessions will continue as long as you feel you need them. We will review this together on a regular basis to make sure that you are getting what you need/want from the sessions.

Training, qualifications & experience

CPCAB Level 4 Diploma In Therapeutic Counselling.

Registered Member of the BACP.

I qualified as a Counsellor in 2005 and since then I have worked within the voluntary sector offering a counselling service to vulnerable young people and adults who may not otherwise have access to it. I also have 12 years experience of working in a secondary school with young people between the ages of 11 and 18 years facing a wide variety of issues including bereavement,self-esteem/ body image issues, eating problems, stress and anxiety.

My experience is not limited to these issues or young people and because I work as a Person Centred counsellor I am able to listen to and support anyone who is travelling a difficult path for whatever reason. I will listen to your experience without judgement and guide you to find your own solutions to whatever is troubling you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.
