About me

I am a warm, approachable and highly experienced Counsellor & Psychotherapist working with adults and adolescents (11+) in central Reading in person and online.

I believe in the transformative power of therapy and will support you to share your emotional struggles through meaningful conversation that promotes personal growth offering hope for the future.

I recognise it can be a huge relief to talk to someone impartial about difficult thoughts and feelings. Therefore, the counselling I offer provides a confidential, non-judgmental space where we aim to work together to make sense of your experiences and gain greater self-understanding to take care of your future mental health.

Training, qualifications & experience

Having originally trained in Therapeutic Counselling I integrate person centred and psychodynamic approaches within the safety of a therapeutic relationship.

Integration is at the heart of my approach and means I can draw upon these ways of working to best suit your needs, at your own pace.  Person centred counselling works in the ‘here and now’ with a focus on empowering you to reach your full potential.  Psychodynamic builds on this to explore how past experiences may be unconsciously impacting this ‘here and now’.

Alongside this relational approach we can discuss incorporating other techniques such as CBT, NLP or IFS depending on what comes up in our work together.

In addition, I am specially trained to work with young people and have been a School Counsellor for many years.  Alongside my private practice, I hold a clinical role at No5 Young People supporting the work of a team of School Counsellors in the Reading area.  When working with young people I adapt my core approach to be more proactive and creative to fit the age and developmental stage of the client.

Details of my training as follows:

  • Internal Family Systems - PESI (ongoing)
  • Diploma in Supervision – CSTD Bath
  • SDS: Introduction to CBT (BPS Approved Certificate)
  • L5 Diploma in Counselling Young People – No5 Young People
  • L4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling – CPTA Reading
  • L3 Certificate in Counselling Studies – CPTA Reading

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

It is a brave step to start in therapy and research shows that the key to a successful experience is in the relationship between you and your therapist, so do consider a number of therapists before making a decision.  If you are arranging sessions for a young person, it can be helpful to get them involved in the decision-making process.  I offer a free short telephone consultation to see if we feel we are a good match.

If, having read this, you get a sense that we will be able to work together, please do get in touch, and I look forward to hearing from you.
