About me

I have over twenty years post qualified experience as a Person-Centred Counsellor. I also have training in Psychodynamic counselling and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I am passionate about therapy as a means of really connecting with someone, offering a safe and therapeutic space in which to explore inner feelings and to journey alongside you as my client as you try to make sense of your experiences.

I currently offer an online service. An assessment session initially, is helpful to establish if we wish to continue working together. I meet with clients for one hour sessions.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • 1991 - Westminster Pastoral Foundation, London. A two year certificate course in Psychodynamic 'Counselling Skills and Attitudes.'
  • 1993 - Metanoia Institute, Ealing. Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling (BACP accredited course)
  • 2010 - Metanoia Institute, Ealing. Post Grad. Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
  • 2020 - Metanoia Institute, Ealing. BSc (Hons) in Reflective Therapeutic Practice
  • 2022 - Metanoia Institute, Ealing. PG Cert HE (Teaching and Learning in Counselling and Psychotherapy) Level 7 Course

I worked within the NHS for thirty four years (progressing to Nurse Specialist) as a qualified registered psychiatric nurse (RMN), working with children, young people and adults with mild to severe mental health needs. My experience spans from working within inpatient units to community settings. I started my counselling and psychotherapy training six months after qualifying as a mental health nurse and my counselling practice has run alongside my nursing career.

Since retiring from the NHS a few years ago, I am now focusing fully on my counselling and psychotherapy work. I completed my teaching training in counselling and psychotherapy and have spent the last three years working at two higher education counselling training institutes: NESCOT in Epsom for two years and this last year in Metanoia Institute as senior lecturer.

I consider my combined experiences of working within mental health and counselling settings to have given me a wealth of knowledge to appreciate and value the human condition and the challenges life can expose us to.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
