About me

I'm described as a strong but gentle man.  I am confident that I can hold whatever it is that you need to bring into the therapy room with you.

I am a BACP registered Psychotherapeutic Counsellor trained to a high standard in Transactional Analysis, Attachment theory, Humanistic counselling, CBT, Psychodynamic and Integrative therapy.

I have extensive experience and now work impactfully and creatively with children, young people and adults, delivering therapy sessions to alleviate symptoms associated with bereavement, abuse, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and compulsive behaviour.

In addition I have much experience of working with men who struggle to connect with and express strong feelings, low self-esteem, depression, compulsive behaviour and addiction.

I'm an LGBTQI+ ally and I have additional experience of working therapeutically with members of this community.

Therapeutic Experience gained as a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor working in the following settings:

- Cheviot Primary School

- West Walker Primary School

- Walker Riverside Academy

- Barnardo's Orchard Mosaic

- Hotspur Primary School

- Swarland Avenue GP surgery

- Private practice based in North Shields

Background

Prior to working as a therapist, I have experience as a support manager in a large international company, a charity project and youth worker and as a telephone support operative on a National helpline.  In recent years, I have worked with and supported young people and families with North Tyneside Council's Youth Offending Team, and Barnardo's in Whitley Bay.  In much of this work I supported young LGBTQI+ people, many of who identified as transgender or non-binary.  In most recent years I've developed a thriving private practice based with children, young people and adults and I'm an approved supplier for Adopt North East and provide therapeutic support to adoptees of all ages.

Therapy

Undertaking therapy can be a daunting task.  As part of my training I've had over 120 hours of therapy myself and I have first hand experience of how beneficial and transformative this can be.  Finding the right therapist is really important and also why I offer a free telephone call so that you have the opportunity to meet and talk with me first.

I really hope to hear from you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully qualified Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and I work with children, young people and adults. I qualified from the Northern Guild, one of the best training institutes in the UK and I’m a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). As a member of BACP, I adhere to strict ethical codes which act to serve and protect each and every one of my clients.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

DBS check

In England and Wales, the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS, formerly known as CRB) carry out criminal records checks for individuals working with vulnerable groups, such as children. To find out more, visit gov.uk , or contact this professional directly

At the moment in-person sessions take place in the attic of a terraced property and there are two flights of stairs to climb. This may not meet everyone's accessibility requirements and for this I apologise.
