About me

After studying psychology I went on to complete my Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy at Liverpool John Moores University. This was a BACP accredited course taught at Masters level. I am a full member of the BACP and on the accredited register of counsellors and psychotherapists compiled by BACP. I also have a certificate in Counselling Supervision and provide supervision for both professionals and trainee counsellors and psychotherapists.

about-quote

I started (like many others) to question my purpose in life in my early forties and began to acknowledge my own irritability and dissatisfaction with my life. Change is more often than not preceded by some form of personal crisis and that is certainly my own experience. I was met with a series of life-changing events including the death of my father and a 25-year marriage breakup. I began to notice that if I was not blaming him, her, this or that then I was blaming myself. This, I came to understand, was the root of my problem and I had to somehow change my view of myself and the world. In essence, I needed to reframe my thoughts, views and beliefs and work out how they were contributing so massively to my interpersonal relationships, whether at home, in the workplace and any other arena.

I believe that, although clients present with many different problems, issues, hurts and hang-ups, there’s usually one common cause. Helping to discover and overcome that is where my passion and skills are utilised. I will walk alongside you while you discover the triggers and responses that affect your personal life and self worth. This service is provided in confidence and is entirely ethically sound adhering to the guidelines of BACP’s ethical framework.

I provide support to individuals and groups including: Workshops, Individuals, Corporate and HR teams or online via SKYPE

My last 10 years have been spent predominantly in the addiction field with the last 5 being a network counsellor for the Professional Footballers Association and Rugby Football League. Being clinical lead at a reknowned addiction treatment centre gave me the push to develop my private practice and not be limited to solely addicted clients which helped me focus on the presenting causes such as anxiety and low self esteem as well as treating symptoms such as addiction. I was initially trained in a Rogerian, sometimes called person-centred, theoretic base, but like many other therapists I now offer a more integrative approach if and when required. I have further training and expertise in Transactional Analysis (TA), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), Gestalt as well as a passion for Transpersonal psychology.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
