About me

Thank you for accessing my webpage. I am a Counsellor/Psychotherapist of over 20 years experience, working one to one and in groups with people of all ages. During that time, I have helped many people find their way through their problems and issues. I have worked in schools, universities, young offender's institutions as well as in management, in the community and in the private and public sectors.

I work in an Integrative style which means that I blend different therapeutic approaches and techniques depending upon your needs. My original training is Humanistic which means that I practice in a caring, non-judgmental and empathic way.  I provide a comfortable, confidential space in a calm and supportive environment and together we will work through whatever it is that is bothering you and help you to find solutions. Counselling/Psychotherapy can be a very helpful way through problems and issues.  It is much more than simply someone to talk to. It is very much an interactive session where I will work with you to help you find the answers you need.

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and hold their Certificate of Proficiency which means that I am approved by them and adhere to their Code of Ethics.

Counselling/Psychotherapy can be long or short term depending upon the nature of the issue(s). I also use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) when appropriate, which can be very useful for those who have goals they want to achieve - e.g. combatting anxiety, depression, anger, OCD, low self esteem etc.

I am committed to my own continuing professional development (CPD) and regularly attend training to keep my skills and knowledge up to date.  I do not discriminate on the grounds of gender, race, sexual orientation or disability.

Training, qualifications & experience

My career has spanned over 25 years working with young people and adults in Education and Teaching. In 1994 I decided to expand my skills and studied for a Postgraduate Diploma in Humanistic Counselling at Roehampton University. Since then I have become qualified in Hypnotherapy & Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

My experience and training has included several different approaches to therapy including Transactional Analysis (TA), Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Person-Centred, Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP), Humanistic & Psychodynamic counselling. This integrative style means that I can use as many skills and tools as possible in order to help my clients by adapting my approach to suit their needs.

Counselling is essentially a talking therapy where the client can discuss their worries and problems in a safe, caring and empathic environment.  Where appropriate, CBT techniques of goal-setting and changing thought patterns will be used to make changes that the client wants. CBT is a highly popular therapy which is used by the NHS to treat patients with depression and other times of emotional disturbances. I am passionate about Counselling and Psychotherapy and have been teaching Counselling/Psychology to adults for a number of years.

Member organisations

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
