About me

Hi, I'm Amanda,

I recognise how hard it can be to reach out for support when you need it the most and how daunting the prospect of counselling can be, particularly if you are not used to talking about your emotions. I aim to make this as easy as possible and ensure that you make a choice that suits your needs and feels right.

No matter who you are or what you are facing, I will meet you with warmth, compassion and respect, offering you empathy, acceptance and a calm, comfortable space to explore difficult feelings and experiences. I aim to put you at ease, building a genuine rapport so that you can understand yourself and relationships more fully, and find the best way forward for you.

Who I work with

I counsel adults and young people (aged 11+) from my counselling room in Crookham Village. I am experienced in working with clients from varied backgrounds who are struggling with their mental health and wellbeing for a variety of reasons. I offer both short-term solution focussed therapy and open-ended counselling so that you can work at a pace and depth that suits your needs and goals. Alongside my private practice I also work with adults at Cornerstone Counselling and with young people at The Source.

How I work

As an integrative therapist, I don't believe in a 'one size fits all' approach. Instead, I draw from a range of different modalities (humanistic, psychodynamic, cognitive, existential and physiological), tailoring my approach to suit you.

It can be difficult to put distressing experiences, thoughts and emotions into words, so if you are amenable I may employ various creative tools and techniques to aid self-expression, build understanding and explore alternative perspectives (drawing, therapy cards, worksheets, games, mind maps, family tree, sand tray, mini-figures etc). This can be particularly useful with young people, neurodiverse clients, and those who struggle to articulate themselves verbally.

Building a trusting relationship is fundamental to the work, so it is really important to find the right person to take this journey with. For this reason, I offer a free (no obligation) phone or video call so that we can learn more about each other, you can ask any questions, and we can determine if we are a good fit.

All the best,

Amanda

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
