About me

Hello. I specialise in Couples Counselling and psycho-sexual Therapy for couples and individuals, offered with integrity and a supportive down to earth approach.

Many couples find it helpful to have the support and guidance of a couples therapist when they are facing difficult relationship issues.

At this time, a lot of people are severely challenged with anxiety and depression. This can be especially hard to cope with in relationships.

About Me
I am a holistic psychotherapist, based in Hythe Kent. I specialise in Relationship Issues, Couples Counselling and psycho-sexual Therapy. I have over 20 years experience in helping couples and individuals at all ages and stages of relationships. I welcome straight and gay couples.

I am particularly skilled in working with ADHD/ADD when one member of the couple has this problem.

I also work well with couples who feel their physical connection has dwindled.

I offer a safe and confidential environment. You will be listened to with empathy and sensitivity. I approach the delicate issues of relating, intimacy and sexuality with understanding and sensitivity, always holding them in an atmosphere of integrity and safety.

My Work is about supporting you, as a couple or an individual, to look realistically at the patterns that are in the way of your good communication and loving connection. Then, to help you make the changes that bring you closeness, fulfillment and deeper connection.

My Approach to couples counselling draws from my Holistic Psychotherapy background, meaning that I think all aspects of you are important: your way of being in your relationship in the present is linked to your experience in your family of origin. Your self esteem, your emotional expression and your spirit all have a part to play.

I draw from an therapeutic, active encounter-style framework. I am down to earth about relating and sexual issues, enabling clients to feel safe and accepted. Many issues that couples struggle with are not so much about the content of the issues but rather more about their process and depth of connection. Re-establishing loving connection, acceptance and empathy for one another is vital to creating a more satisfying relationship and being able to deal with issues as they arise. And the more connection there is, the less issues cause problems.

Testimonial: We have found Priya to be very caring and respectful of boundaries, but appropriately encouraging by challenging fears and helping both partners express themselves without either one feeling that you favour the other or feel the other has a greater "problem".

What You May Need Help With:

  • Maybe the communication in your relationship needs improvement.
  • Or you long for more closeness and intimacy?
  • Perhaps one or both of you is disappointed with your sex life, or has a physical sexual difficulty.
  • Perhaps your expectations about sex and intimacy are very different from one another and it's not easy to talk about this together.
  • Or difficulties are occurring in your relationship, because of an earlier abusive experience or a past affair.
  • Does one of you have a disorder eg ADHD which is affecting your relationship.

What I Offer
My Practice offers a confidential and supportive atmosphere in which you will feel heard and understood.
Therapy sessions can be short and regular or in longer blocks I call Intensives.
It's also possible to work online together.

Relationship Counselling/Therapy for Couples and Individuals offers a variety of therapeutic tools, generally a mix of practical and emotional approaches, all within a client-centred, holistic context. I often get couples to engage with one another in dialogue. within sessions, especially as, so often, they have not been really listening to each other. I also suggest tasks or exercises to practise at home.

Some of the relationship issues that Couples Counselling can address are:

Lack of intimacy and sexual problems (Psycho-sexual therapy)
Difficulties in communication, leading to conflicts
Feeling blamed or misunderstood by your partner
Not spending quality time together
Problems with relatives
Affairs and betrayals
Feeling a loss of your individuality in the relationship
Low self esteem in one partner

I invite you to book a first session, in which, after an assessment of your needs and situation, we will decide together whether my approach is helpful for you, either individually or as a couple.

If a different approach seems more appropriate, I will be able to refer you on to a known and trusted colleague.

I'm happy to talk with you on the phone initially and discuss whether this work can help you in your situation as a couple or an individual.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a Certified Holistic Psychotherapist and an accredited member of the College of Sexual and Relationship Therapy COSRT(accred). I am also accredited with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy MBACP (Accred). I am trained in Couples Encounter Based Therapy.

After working for years as a social worker, I completed my training as a psychotherapist at the Chiron Centre for Holistic Psychotherapy. Seeing how many clients struggled with issues of intimacy in relationships, I expanded my skills by joining the USA based Human Awareness Institute (HAI), a pioneer in working with intimacy and sexuality issues.

As well as my private practice sessions, I have led many workshops and courses for couples addressing varied aspects of relationships from communication skills to creating more loving intimacy.

I truly enjoy helping people discover the depth and joy of loving connection.
