About me

Life as we currently experience it is the culmination of all of our lived experiences; some of these experiences are positive, some challenging and some negative. Whether you are struggling with anxiety and overwhelm, depression and motivational issues, grief and loss or some other factors which are impacting your ability to live your best life, counselling and psychotherapy can help. I provide a safe space for you to explore your self-knowledge and wisdom, fostering trust in your own power to implement change or growth where possible and acceptance where necessary. Essentially, this means I offer a unique therapeutic relationship based on mutual trust and non-judgement - this lays the foundation for healing and growth.

As a fully qualified UKCP and BACP registered Person-Centred Psychotherapist, I am experienced and professionally trained to be alongside you as you explore your needs and find ways to connect with your inner world and wellbeing. I offer short-, medium- and long-term therapy centred around what you feel you need as a client; I believe in the therapeutic benefit of building a trusting space in which you can value your autonomy and attune to what feels right for you, moment by moment.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained on the MSc Person-Centred and Experiential Psychotherapy programme at the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute (SPTI), Nottingham. I graduated in the summer of 2022 having practiced for over three years within local charitable organisations in Derbyshire supporting women impacted by domestic abuse and individuals coming to terms with bereavement and life-limiting illness. I have a particular interest in working with grief, significant life changes, the impact of trauma, neglect and difficulties in relating to others. Such life experiences are often accompanied by anxiety and/or depression along with other impacts on health and wellbeing.

Prior to entering the profession, I worked with children with complex physical disabilities before becoming a Complementary Therapist working with adults. I became motivated to help people at a deeper level in the hope of supporting individuals to connect with internal power to grow through and beyond the challenges life throws at us; for me, psychotherapy offers a way to fulfil this aim. I bring all of my life experience to my practice, including the joys and challenges of raising a family as well as the depths of loss and despair; this experience enables me to feel confident I can remain hopeful in times of challenge and offer a safe, comfortable space for clients. I work non-judgementally, offering acceptance and empathy in the therapeutic relationship. I will happily explore ways to work creatively with clients, e.g., creative materials, books etc, if clients feel they need to find alternative ways to access their feelings. I have a particular interest in how books, TV and film can help clients to connect with their feelings in the therapeutic process - this connects my professional qualifications and practice with my MA in Literature and BA (Hons) in Literature with Arts in Healing and Learning .

My area of research during MSc training was the inner experience of change and growth within trainee psychotherapists - this remains an area of special interest for me. I keep up to date with current developments in psychotherapy and complete additional training in response to my growing practice; for example, most recently I completed further training in Developmental Trauma, building on understanding of the physical effects of trauma on the body and mind.

I have worked closely with people from multiple backgrounds and social groups who have been impacted by various issues; these include significant life changes, grief, illness, depression/low mood, anxiety, the impact of trauma, relationship breakdown, domestic abuse and the exploration of identity. I approach my work from a relational, trauma-informed perspective which recognises the significant impact of life events and attachment relationships.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
