About me
Hi and welcome to my profile.
I know it can be daunting reaching out for support and you might be wondering whether you will be judged, worried about opening up to a stranger, scared that you might get too overwhelmed with emotions and embarrass yourself and even worried your information will get out once you start talking to me. I want you to know that from personal experience I know taking the first step can be difficult and I understand why you might be scared to do so. You are not alone in how you are feeling and most people who are thinking about counselling can feel this way at the beginning.
Although this can be scary sometimes talking to someone you don’t know, who offers a non-judgemental and confidential space to talk about what is worrying you is the perfect opportunity to release what you have been bottling up and help you to begin to make sense of things while feeling heard and understood.
Sessions can help you to understand yourself better, give you the opportunity to make changes, help you to manage emotions and give you a comforting environment to share and be true to yourself.
My counselling approach
I am a qualified registered integrative counsellor which means I combine various therapeutic approaches to tailor an intervention to your specific wishes and needs. I mainly work using a person-centred approach where I look at you as an individual, exploring your expectations and gaining an understanding of your feelings and experiences and how this has led you to seek counselling. Within sessions we will work together to explore any difficulties and I will use the techniques I have learnt to help you move forward. From time to time, I will draw upon other therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy if I feel this will help you progress to achieving a greater understanding of yourself.
Remember counselling is about what is right for you, and we will take each session at your own pace. You are allowed to stop your counselling sessions at any point so please don’t be afraid that you might be committing to something you can’t get out of.
I work with people who are aged 18 and above and have experience of working with addiction, depression, anxiety, relationship issues and bereavement. I offer telephone, face to face and online sessions.
What to expect
I thought it would be helpful to explain what would happen if you decided to make contact so that you can feel at ease about taking the first step. I offer a 15-minute initial telephone call to give us the opportunity to explore what you want from counselling, the best option for you and whether I am the right therapist. If you are happy to work together then we will book your first appointment to explore in more depth your reasons for attending counselling. We will look at what is expected from both of us when working together, and you will have an opportunity to ask further questions. Its important to know that you are not obligated to say yes straight away, and you can go away and reflect on our telephone conversation and decide what is right for you.
Thank you for viewing my profile and I look forward to hearing from you.
