About me

I love being a counsellor and am genuinely interested, engaged and supportive throughout our journey together. I am warm, compassionate, perceptive and honest. My clients tell me I am easy to talk to and have a good sense of humour which they find helpful, especially when things are tough.  I understand that you may feel worried about opening up and talking about difficult experiences and feelings, so we will find a process and pace that is right for you.

I see you as a unique person with unique experiences.  I can support you to overcome specific, distressing problems, for example

• Anxiety and/or depression
• Panic attacks
• Marital and family difficulties
• Traumatic experiences at any stage of life
• Loss and bereavement
• Low confidence and self-esteem

or to understand your thoughts, feelings and behaviour if you are feeling overwhelmed or that things aren’t right.

I am on your side and able to help you. I offer a safe, accepting, non-judgemental connection to help you find a way forward - your way.

Our counselling relationship

Our counselling relationship will be confidential, relaxed and supportive, helping you to feel good about yourself, overcome your difficulties and achieve your potential. The process is sensitive to your pace and what you want to explore and is focussed on what you want to achieve.

My approach

Drawing from my training and experience in a range of therapies, I offer bespoke counselling that is personal to you and your needs. Specific therapeutic techniques enable us to tackle specific problems. I have extensive experience in supporting individuals to overcome and move on from current or past trauma, depression, disabling anxiety and relationship difficulties.

I believe that answers to our difficulties lie within our relationships with others – often starting in childhood. Knowing the importance of relationships to our wellbeing also means that our therapy relationship is a key ingredient to the change process. My approach puts you and your experiences at the heart of that process.

We can exist very much ‘in our heads’ and ignore important messages from our feelings and body. Working together to connect and work through your thoughts, feelings, emotions and behaviour will help you understand, accept yourself and change your life for the better.

First steps

I understand that choosing a counsellor to work with is not easy. If you think you might be interested in us working together, please get in touch by email, text or call and we can arrange a free consultation before you commit to anything. We can discuss your best hopes and worst fears about the process. I will do my best to answer any questions and address any concerns that you may have. If you decide then or later that you want to go ahead with an initial session we can make the arrangements.

Working with me

My practice is based in my discreet, comfortable, welcoming home studio in Horbury. It is within easy reach of Wakefield and Huddersfield and surrounding areas and 5 minutes drive from M1 Junction 40.  There is ample, free off-road parking.

If getting to an appointment is a problem I offer telephone or online video (Zoom) sessions. It may be that you will feel more comfortable speaking about your issues from the comfort of your own home or have anxiety or disability and it is easier for you to use this facility.  I also have a mobile therapy room and can arrange to come to you and the price for this is negotiable depending on your location and distance.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
